LIGHTBOX Geballaste aluminium draagconstructie De LIGHTBOX is een eenvoudige en beproefde draagconstructie voor verschillende type zonnepanelen op vlakke daken. Het betreft een open aluminium constructie waarop een normaal geraamd zonnepaneel met een bout verbinding gemonteerd wordt. De LIGHTBOX is voor vrijwel ieder standaard zonnepaneel geschikt. Sinds 2003 zijn er ruim 8.000 stuks van deze zeer succesvolle draagconstructie in velerlei varianten verkocht. De LIGHTBOX wordt uit brute of geanodiseerd aluminium plaatwerk vervaardigd. Voor bijna alle zonnepanelen is een ontwerp aanwezig. Vrijblijvend wordt een constructieve berekening uitgevoerd omtrent de hoeveelheid te gebruiken ballast. Door de open constructie wordt het zonnepaneel maximaal geventileerd voor een hoge opbrengst en is de aansluitdoos en de bekabeling altijd gemakkelijk bereikbaar tijdens de installatie en ten behoeve van eventuele onderhoudswerkzaamheden. Vanwege zijn relatief lage gewicht is de LIGHTBOX makkelijk handelbaar. De LIGHTBOX is stapelbaar op een pallet tot circa 25 stuks, mede afhankelijk van het type. Dit maakt het verticaal transport naar het dak eenvoudig. De LIGHTBOX wordt geleverd inclusief de benodigde RVS bevestigingsmiddelen en rubbergranulaat tegeldragers voor de bescherming van de onderliggende dakbedekking. Op de LIGHTBOX wordt een productgarantie van 10 jaren na levering afgegeven. Voor daken waar een hoge windlast van toepassing is of waar slechts een beperkte daklast mogelijk is zijn er geschakelde varianten beschikbaar waardoor de benodigde hoeveelheid ballast gereduceerd kan worden. The ConSole is the ideal solution for mounting solar panels on flat roofs. Most common solar panels in the 70 to 260 range can be mounted on the ConSole.

The ConSole is filled with ballast (gravel, flagstones, etc.), in order to provide greater resistance to wind loading. The amount of ballast is determined according to the height of the building, its location and the nature of the installation surface. Please refer to the table on page 3 for reference values with regard to the amount of ballast. The ConSole is made of 100 % recycled, chlorine-free high-density polyethylene (HDPE). The raw materials of the ConSole are fire resistant and comply with fire protection standards in accordance with DIN 4102 Class B2. The energy payback time for the ConSole is less than one year. The ConSole weighs between 3-6 kg, is stackable (40 ConSoles per pallet) and has a continuous mounting border. The non-slip ConSole Light is also optionally available. This ConSole has an EPDM film bonded onto its bottom side, which generates a higher friction coefficient. This ConSole is particularly suitable for slippery roofing materials.

i. Installer’s Responsibilities Please review this manual thoroughly before installing your RapidRac™ G10 system. This manual provides a) supporting documentation for building permit applications relating to Unirac’s RapidRac™ G10 ballasted flat-roof photovoltaic racking system and b) planning and assembly instructions for RapidRac™ G10. RapidRac™ G10 products, when installed in accordance with this bulletin, will be structurally adequate and will meet the structural requirements of the IBC 2006, , ASCE 7-05, and California Building Code 2007 (collectively referred to as “the Code”). Unirac also provides a limited warranty on RapidRac™ G10 products (p. 22).
RapidRac™ G10 is much more than a product. It’s a flat roof solution that accommodates a wide range of modules, providing customers with flexibility & options. Minimal parts, faster installation, reduced labor expenses and versatility; all customer-driven demands that helped engineer this unique flat roof solution. It’s accompanied by a technical support system that provides this complete installation and code compliance documentation, an on-line Estimator and design assistance to help you solve the toughest challenges.
The installer is solely responsible for: • Complying with all applicable local or national building codes, including any that may supersede this manual; • Ensuring that Unirac and other products are appropriate for the particular installation and the installation environment; • Ensuring that the roof, its rafters, connections, and other structural support members can support the array under all code loading conditions (this total building assembly is referred to as the building structure); • Using only Unirac parts and installer-supplied parts as specified by Unirac (substitution of parts may void the warranty and invalidate the letters of certification in all Unirac publications); • Ensuring the fasteners used in the attachment of the racking to the building structure have adequate pullout strength and shear capacities as installed; • Maintaining the waterproof integrity of the roof, including selection of appropriate flashing; • Ensuring safe installation of all electrical aspects of the PV array; and • Ensuring correct and appropriate design parameters are used in determining the design loading used for design of the specific installation. Parameters, such as snow loading, wind speed, exposure, and topographic factor should be confirmed with the local building official or a licensed professional engineer.

Part I. Procedure to Determine the Design Wind Load [1.1.] Using the Analytical Method - ASCE 7-05 The procedure to determine Design Wind Load is specified by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and referenced in the International Building Code (IBC) 2006. For purposes of this document, the values, equations, and procedures used in this document reference ASCE 7-05, Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures. Please refer to ASCE 7-05 if you have any questions about the definitions or procedures presented in this manual. If your installation is located outside the United States, consult your local Unirac distributor or your local building authority. The wind force analysis is based on ASCE 7-05, Chapter 6. Upon review of the different methods available for calculating wind loading, it has been determined that Method 2 (Analytical Procedure) is most appropriate. Specifically Section 6.5.13 (Design Wind Loads on Open Buildings with Mono sloped, Pitched, or Troughed Roofs), was selected as the method most closely approaching the application of Unirac’s RapidRac™ G10 racking system. The pressures are determined following Section 6.5.13.2 (Main Wind-Force Resisting System) according to the following formula: p = qh × G × Cn
You will also need to determine the following information: • Basic Wind Speed, V (mph), the largest 3 second gust of wind in the last 50 years • Total roof height, h (ft) • Effective Wind Area (ft2) = minimum total continuous area of modules being installed • Roof Zone = the area of the roof you are installing the PV system • Roof Zone Setback Length, a (ft) • Roof Pitch (degrees) • Exposure Category.

[1.2.] Procedure to Calculate Design Wind Load The procedure for determining the Design Wind Load can be broken into steps that include looking up several values in different tables.
Step 2: Determine Roof/Wall Zone

Using Table 1, determine the Roof Zone Setback Length, a (ft), according to the width and height of the building on which you are installing the PV system.
Determine the Basic Wind Speed, V (mph), by consulting your local building department or locating your installation on the map in Figure 1, p. 4.
The Design Wind Load will vary based on where the installation is located on a roof. RapidRac™ G10 mounting systems may be located in more than one roof zone.
Determine in which roof zone your PV system is located, Zone 1, 2, or 3 according to Figure 2.

If the installation is not on level ground, please consult ASCE 7-05, Section 6.5.7 and the local building authority to determine the Topographic Factor. Step 4: Determine Exposure Category (B, C, D) Determine the Exposure Category by using the following definitions for Exposure Categories. The ASCE/SEI 7-05* defines wind exposure categories as follows:

Step 2. Calculate Snow Load Chapter 7 of ASCE 7-05 addresses snow loading Unirac utilizes the same methodology and charts to determine snow loading forces on the RapidRac™ G10 structure. Snow loads act on the horizontal projection of the photovoltaic module onto the roof. Since there are no uplift cases for snow load and there are also no snow loads in the y or x directions, the snow force in the downward direction is calculated as follows: SL = Sg COS(10°) where S = Snow force in the downward direction. From Chapter 2 of ASCE 7-05, section 2.4.1, several load combinations must be considered in the development of the maximum design forces. These forces will be used to compare to the appropriate allowable stresses. The load forces calculated below on a per module basis.
Load combinations do not apply in x or y directions for downforce or uplift. Forces in the X direction are forces expected from a seismic event. Forces in the Y direction are forces expected from a seismic event and along with drag forces, and are defined in Step 1.

Ballast Weight Requirements per Module in the Z Direction. The ballast weight requirement per module in the Z Direction is equal to Load Combination 4, UFz from Step 3.2. This ballast value applies to all modules located in roof zone 1. For any modules that are positioned in roof zone 2 or 3, the appropriate roof zone factor from the components and cladding section of the code must be applied to the ballast requirements in those zones respectively.

The uplift wind force condition will control in all cases in the Y Direction. The normal force due to the sum of Dead Load 1, D1 and the Ballast Weight Requirement per module in the Y Direction, multiplied by the assumed coefficient of friction must resist the uplift wind force in the Y Direction, UFy. Following the prescribed method for load combinations in ASCE 7-05, the Dead Load Force 1, DLF1, must be multiplied by a factor of 0.6.
The number of ballast blocks per module to resist uplift must be rounded up.
(0.6 x DLF1 + BWy) x 0.4 = UFy Rearranging this equation yields the Ballast Weight Requirement in the Y Direction BWy = UFy/0.4 – 0.6 (DLF1) The Code Calculated Ballast Weight Requirement per module is the sum of the Ballast Weight Requirement per module in the Z Direction and the Ballast Weight Requirement per module in the Y Direction. BWc = BWz + BWy The result of the Code Calculated Number of Ballast Blocks per module must be adjusted based on extensive wind tunnel testing completed by Unirac. The adjustment factor to correlate the Code Calculations to the wind tunnel results is 0.434. Multiplying the Code Calculated Ballast Weight Requirement per Module by the Wind Tunnel Adjustment Factor yields the Ballast Weight Requirement per module at equilibrium, BWe.
Please note that the recommended number of ballast blocks per module must be reduced to eliminate shading on the photovoltaic modules. RapidFoot Attachments can be added in order to reduce ballast requirements. Refer to the section on the affect of attachments on ballast requirements for more information. Step 5. Calculate Dead Load Realized by Substructure The dead load realized by the substructure is the dead load of the racking and modules and the total ballast required distributed over the entire foot print of the array. DL2 = (D1 + Total Ballast Weight) / (Array Width×Array Length) where D2 = dead load realized by substructure (psf) Step 6. Calculate Seismic Load If you are installing the RapidRacTM G10 system in a seismic zone, Unirac recommends a positive attachment to the roof structure. The seismic attachment recommendations come from ASCE 7-05, Chapter 15- “Seismic Design Requirements for Non-Building Structures”. Seismic resistance calculations are based on ASCE 7-05, Chapter 15, Section 15.1.3, which refers to ASCE 7-05 Chapter 12, Section 12.8- the “Equivalent Lateral Force Procedure”, used in this manual. These tables give the “MCE Ground Motion” by region as a factor of g’s (gravitational acceleration). Upon examination of these figures it can be seen that even for earthquake prone regions, with very few exceptions, an Ss of 2.0 is equal to or greater than the Ss related to almost all possible locations. Unirac’s RapidRacTM G10 Ballasted System seismic attachment requirements are based on using a Ss of 2.0. If it is desired to use a more precise Ss for your location, ASCE 7-05 figures can be used to determine the Ss is for the installation site. Using Ss of 2.0, the site coefficient Fa, can be determined from ASCE 7-05, Chapter 11, Table 11.4-1, determining a site class. Using ASCE 7-05, Chapter 11, Section 11.4.2, site class is determined by the soil properties of the particular installation site. Note that Section 11.4.2 states “Where the soil properties are not known in sufficient detail to determine the site class, Site Class D shall be used unless the authority having jurisdiction on geotechnical data determines Site Class E or F soils are present at the site”. Site Class D is used for these seismic calculations. Consult a local engineer if you would like to determine your actual Site Class. Using an Ss of 2.0 and a Site Class of D in Table 11.4-1, Fa equals 1.0. Substituting these values in Equation 11.4.1 provides the following: SMS = Fa × Ss = 2.0 × 1.0 = 2.0. Substituting into Equation 11.3.1 provides the following: SDS = (2 / 3) × SMS = 1.33. For the seismic response coefficient (Equation 12.8-2): Cs= SDS / (R / I), the values for R and I are needed. As noted previously, R equals the response modification factor in ASCE 7-05, Table 12.2-1. Upon review of Table 12.2-1, the closest description to the RapidRacTM G10 Racking System is case H: “Steel Systems Not Specifically Detailed for Seismic Resistance Excluding Cantilever Column Systems”. Though RapidRacTM G10 is not a steel structure, this is the closest representation of RapidRacTM G10, and using Case H yields a relatively conservative value for the Response Modification Factor. Therefore R = 3 from Table 12.2-1.

The occupancy importance factor, I, is determined in accordance with ASCE 7-05, Section 11.5.1 and Table 1-1. The best description of the RapidRacTM G10 structure falls into Occupancy Category 1. Using this value in Table 11.5-1, I equals 1.0. Solving for equation 12.8-2, Cs = SDS / (R / I) = 1.33 / (3 / 1.0) = 0.443. Determining the seismic base shear (equation 12.8-1) requires the effective seismic weight W; (ASCE 7-05, Section 12.7.2). From Section 12.7.2, the total dead load of the array is all that must be considered, therefore DL2 equals the total dead load calculated in Step 5 above. Substituting into equation 12.8-1: V = Cs × W = 0.443 × W Unirac recommends a factor of safety of 1.5, therefore seismic resistance force is determined by the following equation: E = 1.5 × 0.443 × D2 = 0.665 × D2. Step 7. RapidFoot Attachment Requirements due to Forces in X Direction The number of RapidFoot attachments = LC5 / Allowable Lateral Force for RapidFoot Attachment Affect of Attachments on Ballast Requirements Ballast can be reduced by adding attachments. RapidFoot attachments have an allowable uplift design load Force in the Z direction of 1200 lbs. URFz = total uplift force resisted by RapidFoot = number of RapidFoot attachments ×1200 lbs. Wb, revised = Total ballast weight - URFz Wb, module = the revised ballast weight requirement per module = Wb, total / number of modules. The Revised Ballast Weight Requirement per module must be rounded up. Step 8. Location for RapidFoot Attachment with Respect to Wind Load and Seismic Load Forces in the X and Y Directions The placement of RapidFoot attachments with regard to connection strength is an important consideration. Each ballast frame can resist a maximum allowable uplift force of 1240 lbs. The uplift design load force in the Z Direction per module must be less than the allowable uplift force per ballast frame and the allowable uplift force of RapidFoot. The following inequality will determine the placement of RapidFoot Attachments. UFz × Number of Modules per RapidFoot < 1200 lbs The controlling design consideration for the location of RapidFoot attachments with respect to wind load is the wind load forces in the Z direction. The maximum allowable uplift load force in the Z Direction is 1240 lbs with respect to the ballast frame to rail bracket attachment. The maximum allowable uplift force in the Z direction for RapidFoot is 1200 lbs. The RapidFoot attachment is the controlling condition.

The allowable lateral load force in the X direction is 1240 lbs with respect to the ballast frame to rail bracket attachment. The allowable lateral load force in the X and Y directions for RapidFoot is 1200 lbs. The RapidFoot attachment will be the controlling condition. The following guidelines must be observed in locating RapidFoot attachments in each array: 1. The tributary load due Seismic or Uplift Wind Load Force must be less than 1200 lbs. 2. Locate RapidFoot Attachments symmetrically about the x and y axis. 3. Locate RapidFoot Attachments one ballast frame in from the perimeter of the array, not at the exterior ballast frame of the perimeter. 4. For arrays that have greater than 3 modules in the x or y direction, one RapidFoot must be located toward each corner of the array, while also observing Guidelines 1, 2, and 3. 5. For irregularly shaped arrays, locate one RapidFoot at the end of each appendage, observing Guidelines 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Part III. Ballast Distribution Requirements Step 1. Distribution of Ballast Blocks over the Array Unirac has designed the RapidRac™ G10 system to take advantage of the large array wind effect, which lightens the overall ballast requirements while remaining strong and safe in the areas most effected by the wind. The areas that see the highest lift due to winds are the east, north, and west perimeters of any array. For this reason, Unirac recommends ballast distribution that is biased towards these three perimeters. Ballast distribution for the RapidRac™ G10 system is specified such that the entire arrays ballast is determined and the average number of ballast blocks is calculated for each module in the array. This number is then multiplied by a factor of 1.5 for the east, north, and west perimeter modules (rounded up to the next whole block). The remaining blocks are then distributed evenly between the remaining interior modules.

These examples presume that no modules are located in roof zones 2 or 3. If modules were located in those roof zones, the appropriate “External Pressure Coefficients” as defined in ASCE 7-05, Fig. 6-17 would need to be applied to the modules in those zones respectively. The resulting ballast requirements would then be met with either the addition of ballast blocks or the use of an attachment allowance using the RapidFoot attachment method outlined in the RapidFoot Installation Manual.

For the purposes of illustration, consider that the array wind calculations determine that this array requires an average of five ballast blocks per module.The total number of ballast blocks for this array would be 16 x 5 = 80. Eighty ballast blocks would ensure the appropriate safety factor and that the array would be secure on the roof.The first step in distributing the ballast would be to apply 8 ballast blocks (5 x 1.5 = 7.5 rounded to 8) to the 4 east, 4 north and 4 west perimeter bay frames.This is a total of 96 ballast blocks. Even though this exceeds the total for the array, the methodology should hold. The final result is: 8 ballast blocks in 8 8 8 each of 12 perimeter bay frames and 0 in each of 8 interior bay frames.

Step 4 Ballast requirements vary. Total amount of concrete blocks placed in frame depends on wind speed, exposure, building height and module dimensions. Parts provided by installer: Solid Cap Concrete Blocks (4” x 8” x 16”), 26 lbs.

WEEB 9.5 Grounding RapidRac is sold with a grounding solution. UniRac utilizes a WEEB 9.5 grounding clip to ground the modules to the RapidRac frame, and the individual frames to each other. The WEEB 9.5 clips are inserted into the RapidRac frame holes with the prongs facing in towards the rack. The module is then placed down on top of the clips and the fastener is used to secure the module to the bracket frames. WEEB 9.5’s are also inserted into the holes that interconnect the bay frames as shown. With all WEEB’s in place and all fasteners torqued appropriately, the entire array and all modules are grounded and a single ground can be run for the array as appropriate building code requirements.

UniRac offers attachment options for the RapidRac™ G10. These can be used for seismic restraint and for ballast trade off, allowing for a reduction in roof dead load. UniRac recommends using the UniRac RapidFoot™, which features Eco-Fasten technology by the Alpine Snow Guard Company. Any attachment used for roof top equipment must consider the roof construction because an attachment may be strong enough to resist far more loading than the roof deck itself can resist (and this is usually the case). Some of the major considerations regarding roof deck construction are as follows: • For metal roofs; what gauge and support spacing; • For concrete is it architectural or structural concrete; • For wood decks, attachment must be to purlins or rafters.
All of these factors play a role in determining the allowable roof point load values. Upon review of the IBC 2006, Section 1607.3, dealing with building live loads; UniRac has limited our attachment allowance to 1200 lb. uplift per attachment. Table 1607.1 from the same reference gives a range of minimal design point loading from 300 to 3000 lb. The attachment trade-off tables located on the back of this document are built using this value. Installing the RapidFoot™ is very quick and simple as illustrated in Figure 1. The RapidFoot™ must be installed inside a ballast bay with the clamping bar engaging the ballast bay North and South rails. For installation on wood deck roofs, two of the fasteners must be fully embedded in a structural sub-member (purlin). The design of the RapidFoot™ allows for 360 degrees of rotation of the base plate to align with rafters or purlins or corrugations.

For roofs with built up insulation, the insulation must be cored out to allow the ferrules to penetrate the actual deck materials. Ferrules are sold separately and can be field cut to length and angle to accommodate the insulation gap as well as the possibility of angles for metal decking as shown in Figure 2. The base plate must be attached to the roof structure using the appropriate length #14 low profile Concealor type fasteners manufactured by the Triangle Fastener Company. These fasteners are included with your RapidFoot™ order. For concrete roofs, anchors must be installed into the concrete. UniRac recommends and supplies the “Scru-lead” type anchors for use with the Concealor fasteners. Once the base plate is securely in place a flashing called a “target patch” must be applied over the base plate. The target patch has two holes that correspond to the two threaded studs extending upwards from the base plate. The target patches are peel and stick for membrane roofs. For built up roofs, a Galvalume® flashing is supplied and requires appropriate sealant material. The target patch must be placed over the two studs and then secured with RapidFoot™ foot plate. Once the RapidFoot™ foot plate is in place the target patch can be secured to the roof according to the roofing manufacturer’s recommendations.

Mounting Schletter Prima Top is especially suitable for the cross mounting of modules on flat roofs if you plan a system with weighed supports. The consoles are positioned in the right distances. A protection mat should be put under every support. Most suitable for the loading are paving stones or similar concrete blocks. The supports are folded and welded to guarantee a sufficient stability. Dear customer, we have compiled a list of tips for the mounting of our system PrimaTop to guarantee a save application:
General tips Schletter Prima Top is especially suitable for the cross mounting of modules on flat roofs if you plan a system with weighed supports. The consoles are positioned in the right distances. A protection mat should be put under every support. Most suitable for the loading are paving stones or similar concrete blocks. The supports are folded and welded to guarantee a sufficient stability. The modules are simply clamped to the supports. There are nicks for the wiring in the supports. The cables should be protected against rubbing and fixed with a lace.
Modules PrimaTop is recommended for the cross mounting of modules up to app. 1600 x 800mm (at a module width of up to 800mm the distance to the ground is so high that the slipping of snow is possible). PrimaTop is only suitable for modules that may be spanned freely over the total module height – please don’t forget to check the module features!
Loading and fixation For the loading we recommend concrete blocks with a length of app. 1m. The needed weight per support can be taken from the system statics for flat roofs. To prevent them from slipping off the base plate the stones on both sides of the support should be durably connected (picture). This can be made with suitable bands, screws or also with wire. On the rear edge of the supports there are holes for additional diagonal bracings. But normally diagonal bracings are not necessary.

Het FlatFix Montage Systeem voor Zonnepanelen Het FlatFix montage systeem is ontwikkeld voor eenvoudige en snelle montage van zonnepanelen op platte of licht hellende daken. FlatFix kan op het dak worden bevestigd doormiddel van gemakkelijk te plaatsen ballast of kan worden geschroefd. Bij het gebruik van ballast wordt gebruik gemaakt van standaard aluminium profielen die in een uitsparing in de FlatFix beugel worden geklikt. FlatFix wordt standaard in twee hoeken geleverd, 20o en 30o. Door het unieke ontwerp is FlatFix bestand tegen windsnelheden tot 13BF met een minimaal ballast gewicht. De dakbelasting is bij een hoek van 30 graden 23 kg per m2 en voor 20 graden zelfs maar 16 kg per m2! De FlatFix beugels zijn vervaardigd uit hoogwaardig aluminium en RVS. Het goed doordachte FlatFix systeem kan worden gebruikt voor de montage van bijna alle types zonnepanelen.

1. Unfolding the FlatFix support
2. Placing the nylon sleeves
3. Assembling the support to form a triangle
Unfold the short leg from under the ground leg of the FlatFix support
Put the two nylon sleeves in the holes of the (now upstanding) short leg.
Unfold the long leg from the ground leg en let it rest on the short leg. Align the holes and slide the M6 bolt through both legs and fixate it with a self locking nut. Pay attention that the nylon sleeves are correctly placed in the short leg.

A standard aluminium profile 50x50x2 is used to align the modules, and for putting in ballast Simply slide and snap the aluminium profile in the lower recess of the short leg.
Measure the required distance between the FlatFix supports, and mark this on the aluminium profile. Snap the required number of FlatFix supports on the aluminium profile.
After all the FlatFix supports are laid down, the second aluminium profile is placed. Again simply slide and snap the aluminium profile in the upper recess of the short leg.

Hallo Martèn, Hierbij mijn klantwensen voor jou afstudeer project. In principe ben ik tevreden over de lightbox. Ik heb in de loop der jaren met diverse montage systemen gewerkt en de lightbox bevalt mij het beste. Je hebt met name weinig onderdelen en je kan systematisch werken. Een paar verbeteringen zouden kunnen zijn. * Het zou fijn zijn dat de panelen van bovenaf bevestigd zouden kunnen worden ( prioriteit 7 ) voordeel: je hoeft niet zoveel op de knieën. nadeel: je zit met het feit dat je de panelen moeilijk in een rechte lijn kan bevestigen. Je zou ze op 1 of andere manier van tevoren vast moeten zetten op de lightbox doormiddel van een staande rond onderaan de lightbox. Ik denk dat je in tijd weinig uithaalt en de kosten van de lightbox hoger zullen zijn. Met klem platen zijn de panelen diefstal gevoeliger. * De kabels vallen moeilijk te tyrippen. Misschien extra gaten voor tyrips in de box. ( prioriteit 9 ) * Een universele mal om de lightboxen snel te plaatsen met de juiste afstand zou ideaal zijn. ( prioriteit 9 ) Ik hoop dat je er iets aan hebt. Zou je me kunnen bellen als je de opties van andere collega’s hebt. Ik ben reuze nieuwsgierig wat voor ideeën zij hebben. In de productevaluatie wordt per klantwensen beoordeeld hoe de verschillende systemen scoren. Dit gebeurt op een schaal van 1 tot 5 met 1 als minste waarde en 5 als hoogste waarde. De motivatie achter de evaluatie gebeurt deels op eigen inzicht, deels op meningen van collega’s, in de tekst oplopend van zwak tot goed. Deze meningen zijn weergegeven in onderstaande matrices.

RapidRac en Solarframe hebben een zeer geringe hellingsgraad waarop het gemonteerd kan worden. Ook heeft RapidRac maar een smal lijstje van mogelijke panelen die gebruikt kunnen worden. De Intersol is wel voor meer panelen bruikbaar, maar een moeilijk aan te passen hellingshoek en zware betonblokken als ballast. Dit maakt het niet geschikt voor lichtere daken. Dit geldt ook voor het Conergy systeem. De SunTub is qua paneeltype breed inzetbaar, maar met een vaste en redelijk steile hellingshoek. Wel is er minder ballast nodig door het design, waardoor het beter geschikt is voor lichtere daken. Het PrimaTop systeem en Sunrack systeem zijn ook voor vele panelen geschikt en het ontwerp vraagt niet te veel ballast, al is de Sunrack natuurlijk al zwaar van zichzelf. Ook zijn de hellingshoeken aan te passen, doordat het systeem redelijkerwijs op maat wordt gemaakt. Dit geldt ook voor de Lightbox, waardoor voor ieder paneel en iedere hellingshoek een uitvoering is te fabriceren. Dit heeft echter wel invloed op de levertijden. Het Flatfix systeem is voor alle

geraamde panelen geschikt en door het ontwerp ook redelijk aerodynamisch en vraagt weinig ballast. Bij grote aantallen is een afwijkende hellingshoek leverbaar dan 20 en 30 graden. •
Snelheid monteren; De systemen van Conergy en Donauer Solartechnik zijn verreweg het traagst in monteren. Gezien de hoeveelheid onderdelen en het opstellen van de constructie scoren beide een 1. Iets minder traag scoren Sunpower, PrimaTop en Solarframe die zich laten kenmerken door meerdere kleine onderdelen, of een lastige wijze van opstellen. Middelmatig zijn de Lightbox, de Console, het Sunrack systeem en Flatfix die allen al minder onderdelen tellen dan voorgaande systemen. Toch is het opstellen van de gehele constructie nog niet snel genoeg voor een hogere score. Met een 4 beoordeeld zijn de RapidRac en SunTub, waarbij het Amerikaanse systeem goed scoort door de eenvoud van de onderdelen en de voorgemonteerde Rivnuts. Het van HDPE gemaakte SunTub is snel te monteren door de grote eenheden en het slimme systeem van in elkaar haken van de basisplaat. Hierdoor zijn snel lange rijen te maken die goed opgesteld staan.
•
Flexibel te plaatsen; De SolarFamulus en Intersol zijn grote stellages die meerdere panelen dragen. Hierdoor is het belangrijk dat er lange rechte lijnen opgesteld worden en dus is het systeem inflexibel in het positioneren. Indien daklichten of afvoerpijpen op het dak staan kunnen deze moeilijk worden gemeden. Tevens bestaat de ballast uit grote blokken waardoor het ook lastiger te plaatsen is. Ook Sunpower en Solarframe zijn minder flexibel omdat het een geheel raster van paneel en draagsysteem vormt die onderling gekoppeld zijn, daarom een 2. RapidRac, PrimaTop en Flatfix zijn ook gekoppeld, maar meer in de richting van de rijen, dus van oost naar west. Hierdoor kan er toch beter geanticipeerd worden op situaties op het dak. Daarnaast kunnen FlatFix en RapidRac als stellage opgebouwd worden en dan pas de ballast. Dit maakt het iets handelbaarder in de montage. De overige vier systemen, Lightbox, Console, SunTub en Sunrack zijn draagsystemen die per paneel een constructie hebben. Hierdoor kan er zeer eenvoudig een lay-out van het geheel worden opgesteld met daarin de situatie op het dak ingerekend. Deze systemen kunnen overigens veelal ook onderling gekoppeld worden indien gewenst. Score 4.
•
Duurzaam na installatie; Ondanks dat Ecostream het product Console als uiterst duurzaam bestempeld, zijn er gevallen bekend waarin bouten losgetrokken zijn van het kunststof doordat deze week is geworden. De PrimaTop is van aluminium, maar de matige score wordt met name bereikt door de scherpe kanten aan het element waar de dakbedekking en de bekabeling door kan beschadigen. Ook Intersol scoort een 2, met name doordat de stellage een aanzienlijke windvanger is en daardoor veel krachten zal krijgen te verduren gedurende 20 jaar. Ook een windvanger, maar iets robuuster is de SolarFamulus en daarom een 3. Ook Lightbox, SunTub en Sunrack scoren een 3 doordat de systemen wel solide zijn, echter wellicht kwetsbaar doordat het niet volledig geschakeld is. Door windvlagen kunnen de relatief steile stellages verschuiven en kabels losraken met daardoor eventueel uitvallen van het gehele systeem tot gevolg. Veel minder steil en geheel gekoppeld zijn de T10, RapidRac, Flatfix en Solarframe waardoor deze systemen minder vatbaar zijn voor windlasten. Dit komt ten goede aan de levensduur. De materiaalkeuze is in alle gevallen aluminium. De meeste systemen hebben wel voorzieningen waarmee beschadigingen aan het dak worden vermeden, zoals EPDM band of rubber granulaat tegeldragers.

Niet te veel ballast; De Console wordt volgens de winstbelasting normen gezien als een gesloten systeem en heeft daardoor redelijk zware windlasten te weerstaan. De Conergy en Intersol systemen zijn vrij hoog door de portrait opstelling en vangen zo veel wind. Ook is de wijze waarop de ballast is gemonteerd zo dat er constant trek is aan de ballast. Dit betekend dat dit betonelement uit 1 stuk moet bestaan en dus ook redelijk zwaar zal zijn. De Lightbox, PrimaTop en Sunrack zijn open systemen, echter niet bijzonder aerodynamisch. Ook is het onderlinge verband niet bijzonder sterk waardoor er redelijk veel ballast gepositioneerd dient te worden. Deze ballast is overigens wel als meerdere kleine elementen aan te brengen. De SunTub is volgens opgaaf van de producent redelijk aerodynamisch en scoort daarmee een 3 in deze evaluatie. Ook de Flatfix is goed bestand tegen wind, echter de positie van de ballasttegels zorgt wel voor een bepaalde puntlast in het onderliggende dak. Het hoogst scoren de systemen van Sunpower UniRac en SolarAccess, mede doordat deze systemen een zeer flauwe hellingshoek hebben. Ook zijn de systemen geheel geschakeld wat de stevigheid ten goede komt.

Fraai; De evaluatie van de klantwens fraai is uiteraard subjectief, daarom zal ik de motivatie kort houden. De systemen van Conergy, PrimaTop, Sunrack en Intersol scoren laag doordat het geheel vrij lomp oogt. Hierin zijn de Lightbox en Console iets ranker, doch wordt de draagconstructie niet fraai. Indien goed uitgelijnd is het geheel redelijk strak om te zien. Doordat de T10 en Solarframe een lage hellingshoek hebben oogt het geheel als een compleet veld met zonnepanelen. Ook Flatfix scoort een 3 door de strakke rijen en de dichte achterkant. Ook RapidRac is een vlak geheel met een mooie structuur in het geheel. Doordat aan de onderzijde een beugel is gemonteerd lijkt het paneel te zweven. Score 4. Ondanks de hellingshoek van de SunTub is het design van het element zeer fraai. Daarom de hoogste score.

Motivering streefwaarden
Voor de diverse klantwensen is voor alle systemen een evaluatie opgesteld. Hieruit blijkt de positie van de Lightbox ten opzichte van de concurrerende systemen. Om op een analytische wijze verbeteringpotentie te kunnen bepalen is het zaak om per klantwens een streefwaarde te bepalen. Welke score dient het vernieuwde product te verkrijgen om ten opzichte van de concurrentie een verbeterde uitgangspositie te hebben? Wat is dan de verbeterfactor en wat is het gewicht van de klantwens? In onderstaande tabel is dit in de laatste kolomen weergegeven.

De streefwaarde is de waarde die het product dient te verkrijgen na herontwerp. Dit gebeurt op de gebruikelijke schaal van 1 tot 5. Deze waarde hoeft niet altijd het allerhoogst te zijn, namelijk 5. Hierbij moet worden afgewogen wat de huidige score is en wat de concurrentie scoort. De verbeterfactor is de factor die ontstaat door de voorgestelde streefwaarde te delen door de huidige evaluatie. Het gewicht bepaald in welke mate de streefwaarde ook belangrijk wordt geacht door de klant. Dit getal bestaat uit de verbeterfactor vermenigvuldigd met het belang van de klantwens. In de laatste kolom is deze waarde in procenten uitgedrukt. De motivatie van de streefwaarden voor de Lightbox per klantwens volgt hieronder. •
Goed te hanteren; De Lightbox scoort hier middelmatig, waar de systemen UniRac en FlatFix het beter doen. Dit komt mede door de kleinere componenten van de systemen. Het streven wordt gesteld op 4. Verbeterfactor; 4/2 = 2, Gewicht; 3*2 = 6

Flexibel toe te passen; Deze klantwens wordt door het huidige ontwerp van de Lightbox al goed beantwoord, vandaar de score 4. Ten opzichte van de concurrentie is dit een zeer goede positie en de streefwaarde wordt gehouden op 4. Niet ambitieus, echter wel een uitdaging om dit vast te houden.

Duurzaam na installatie; De streefwaarde voor de Lightbox is hier een 4 waar de huidige positie een 3 is. Dit streven dient met name gezocht te worden in hogere windbestendigheid en onderhoudsvrijer, ondermeer door het wegwerken van bekabeling. Verbeterfactor; 4/3 = 1.66, Gewicht; 4*1.33 = 5.33

Niet te veel ballast; Hier scoort de Lightbox niet bijzonder goed met een 2, vooral omdat de concurrentie het beter doet. Toch is de streefwaarde slechts op 3 gezet, daar ik als engineer van PV systemen weet hoe lastig dit facet is. Een relatief laag ambitie niveau. Echter, het product moet van ver komen. Verbeterfactor; 3/2 = 1.5, Gewicht; 3*1.5 = 4.5
•
Fraai; Een relatief onbelangrijk onderdeel. Toch wens ik de score te verhogen van 2 naar 3 om ook een hip en mooi product te kunnen vermarkten. Verbeterfactor; 3/2 = 1.5, Gewicht; 2*1.5 = 3

Gunstige prijs; Dit is voor de Lightbox reeds een zeer goede positie en met de verschillen in prijs laat ik deze streefwaarde op 3 staan. Concurrerende systemen hebben nog veel in te halen. Maar wederom dient deze voorsprong wel vast gehouden te worden. Verbeterfactor; 3/3 = 1, Gewicht; 3*1 = 3

Motivering technische functies in QFD matrix
De klantwensen die voort zijn gekomen uit de enquête zijn hieronder nogmaals weergegeven. De vertaalslag naar technische functies voor de ontwerper wordt in deze bijlage gemotiveerd. •
Goed te hanteren; het element dient niet te zwaar en lomp te zijn om het op het dak handelbaar te houden voor de monteurs. Technische functies die hier direct aan gekoppeld zijn, zijn het volume en het gewicht van het element. Dit hangt ook weer direct samen met de materiaalkeuze. Deze kan gewicht en volume sterk beïnvloeden. Ook de functie stapelbaar is toegevoegd omdat ik dit als een vereiste zie in de productie, transport en montagefase. Als de elementen niet te stapelen zouden zijn, betekend het een vermenigvuldiging van de aantal pallets, ritten en hijsmomenten.
•
Flexibel toe te passen; de draagconstructie dient voor velerlei toepassingen bruikbaar te zijn, dus voor vlakke daken met diverse afmetingen en hoogtes, alsook voor systemen met andere panelen. Dan is de installateur niet beperkt in zijn componentenkeus en kan hij beter voorzien in de wensen van de afnemer. Indien de hellingshoek van het systeem aan te passen is, maakt dit het systeem nog flexibeler. Juist door een lagere hellingshoek neemt de GCR toe en kan er per vierkante meter dakoppervlak meer energie geproduceerd worden.
•
Snelheid monteren; de kosten van de draagstructuren lopen sterk uiteen, maar een niet te vergeten onderdeel in de totale kostprijs is het monteren zelf. Als de snelheid van monteren omhoog zou kunnen, heeft dit een positieve invloed op de totale kostprijs. De technische functies die hiermee samenhangen zijn ondermeer het aantal onderdelen waaruit de totale constructie bestaat. Door het aantal schroeven, bouten en frames terug te brengen wordt ook het aantal handelingen terug gebracht. Dit hangt ook weer samen met het aantal benodigde stuks gereedschap. Indien de installateur slechts een of twee tools nodig heeft voor de gehele montage, kan dit versnellend werken. Ook is de montagewijze van invloed op de snelheid van montage. Door een innovatief systeem zou het monteren wellicht sneller kunnen. Een voorbeeld hierin is het klemmen van de panelen in een structuur zoals Schoenau hanteert.
•
Flexibel te plaatsen; een systeem dat per paneel een draagconstructie heeft kan eenvoudig gepositioneerd worden en aangepast aan de situatie op het dak. Zo kan een dak optimaal benut worden. Een andere functie is het onderling koppelen, wat de snelheid van montage omhoog kan brengen en ook de hoeveelheid ballast kan reduceren. Maar hierdoor wordt het creëren van rijen een must, wat ten koste gaat van de eerder genoemde flexibiliteit. Ook is de locatie en moment van ballast een item wat invloed heeft op de flexibiliteit. Als de ballast vooraf geplaatst moet worden kan daarna moeilijker met het systeem geschoven worden. Echter, achteraf plaatsen van ballast kan extra risico’s met zich meebrengen tijdens installatie. De locatie van de ballast verdient ook aandacht en kan onderdeel uitmaken van de constructie zoals bij het ClickFit systeem.
•
Duurzaam na installatie; aangezien panelen minimaal 20 jaar dienen mee te gaan door ondermeer de FiT, kan vanuit de eigenaar een zelfde periode geëist worden voor de draagconstructie. De eerder genoemde materiaalkeuze is hier van toepassing, maar ook mogelijke beschadigingen aan de dekbedekking tijdens installatie en daarna is hier ontoelaatbaar. De bekabeling dient in de installatie enigszins weg gewerkt te zijn. Als kabels 20 jaar lang los hangen en schuren langs bijvoorbeeld scherpe aluminium randen kan dit zeker invloed hebben op de technische levensduur van het systeem. En als in het ontwerp de aerodynamica goed verzorgd is, heeft dit hoogstwaarschijnlijk een positief effect op de constructie.
•
Niet te veel ballast; deze klantwens is indirect ook verbonden met andere klantwensen zoals flexibele toepassing en snelheid monteren. Immers, minder ballast betekent dat ook minder sterke gebouwen in aanmerking komen voor PV en dat de installatietijd gereduceerd

wordt omdat er minder ballast geplaatst hoeft te worden. Maar als technisch functies komt ook de aerodynamica naar voren. Immers, hoe beter de constructie met windlasten om gaat, hoe minder ballast er vereist is. Ook het type ballast verdient aandacht. De meeste systemen werken met betontegels, die goedkoop zijn en heel goed te verkrijgen. De systemen van Conergy en Donauer echter gebruiken grotere betonblokken waarop het systeem geplaatst wordt. Deze zijn moeilijker te hanteren dan betontegels van circa 15 kilogram. De Console daarentegen kan zowel met betontegels als met grind worden gevuld. Grind heeft als voordeel dat het vaak al op het dak aanwezig is als ballast voor de reguliere dakbedekking. Ook kan grind met een betonpomp vanaf de begane vloer worden opgepompt zodat de installateur niet met tegels hoeft te schouwen. •
Fraai; ondanks dat PV systemen op vlakke daken vaak niet te zien zijn, is het uiterlijk niet geheel uit te vlakken. De technische functie design hangt hieraan, al is het geen direct bruikbare functie waarmee de ontwerper aan de slag kan.
•
Gunstige prijs; uiteraard moet het systeem bijdragen aan de algehele kostprijsreductie van PV, dus mag de onderconstructie niet te duur worden. Echter moet wel een balans gevonden worden met de klantwens snelheid monteren. Als deze immers sterk toeneemt mag dit in meer of mindere mate ten koste gaan van de prijs per constructie. De technische functie maakbaarheid is hier wel het meest van toepassing, gekoppeld met de materiaalkeuze en aantal onderdelen. In het proces zal het ontwerp steeds getoetst dienen te worden aan deze maakbaarheid.

Verpakkingswijze en transport
Diverse moduleproducenten hanteren een eigen manier van verpakken van de modulen. Hierbij wordt met name gekeken naar de afmeting van het paneel en het transportmedium. Schott Solar verpakt haar modules per twee in een doos en bouwt een pallet op met in totaal 36 panelen plat op elkaar gestapeld. Omdat de dozen geen of weinig onderling verband hebben, wordt de pallet met plastic folie ingewikkeld. De module is de ASE 165 met de afmetingen 1580*808*50. Omdat de modulen plat liggen is dit ook ongeveer de grootte van de pallet. Het complete pakket is circa 2,2 meter hoog. Schott is gevestigd in Alzenau, Duitsland en het gros van het transport verloopt via vrachtwagens naar Europese afnemers. Het afval is met circa 18 kartonen dozen aanzienlijk.

Het Spaanse Atersa is gevestigd in Valencia en produceert voornamelijk voor de Europese markt. Derhalve gaat dit vervoer ook met vrachtwagens. De modulen hebben een vermogen van 214 Wp tot 230 Wp met de afmetingen 1650*992*50. Deze modulen zijn een stuk groter dan de ASE van Schott. Atersa verpakt haar modulen in houten kratten van circa 1750*1100*1200 waarin de modulen rechtop staan. Per pallet passen 21 modulen. Het gebruik van houten kratten is voor de bescherming van de modulen zeer goed en de kratten kunnen ook goed gestapeld worden. Maar deze verpakkingswijze levert op de bouwplaats veel afval op. Het uit de krat nemen van modulen is voor een enkele persoon een lastige klus, daar de module geheel naar boven getild moet worden naar circa 2 meter hoog eer het uit de krat is. Ook ontstaat de situatie dat als er meerdere modulen uit de krat zijn genomen, de overige modulen omvallen.

De Chinese producent Suntech levert de modulen aan op pallets met de afmeting 1580*1120*1200. In een pallet passen 26 modulen welke rechtopstaand vervoerd worden. De pallets zijn aangepast aan de interne afmetingen van een reguliere container omdat alle vervoer per schip verloopt. Per 40 voet container passen 28 pallets, totaal 728 panelen. Ten opzichte van Atersa is de toepassing van kartonnen rekken een aanzienlijke verbetering voor wat betreft de verticale modulepositie. Deze rekken positioneren de modulen rechtopstaand in de doos en zorgen dat de panelen niet omvallen. Echter, het zwaartepunt van de gehele pallet verschuift enorm als de pallet halfvol is. Dit kan in het logistieke proces tot problemen leiden. Ook blijft het onhandig om de modulen uit de doos te halen, net als bij Atersa. Wel is het restafval minder dan in de andere verpakkingsmethoden.

Indien de modulen volgens de in het verslag aangedragen verpakkingswijze worden verscheept is het noodzakelijk om te weten hoeveel STP 200 panelen er daadwerkelijk in een zeecontainer passen. Met deze wetenschap kan een goed vergelijk gemaakt worden met de huidige verpakkingswijze. De modulen worden in een 40 ft zeecontainer vanuit China per boot richting Europa verscheept. Deze container heeft de binnenmaten van 12010 x 2340 x 2390 mm (lxbxh)1 Per pallet worden de panelen horizontaal geplaatst. Hierdoor is de afmeting van het paneel tevens de minimale ruimte van de pallet. Dit is 1482 x 990 mm, echter houdt rekening met de kunststof klemmen. Ter bescherming is het raadzaam een kartonnen omhulsel aan te brengen. Dit resulteert in een extra dikte rondom van circa anderhalve centimeter. Hierdoor wordt de totale pallet 1512 x 1050 mm. Door de kunststof klemmen en de mechanische wijze van stapelen, kunnen de stapels modulen zeer strak bemeten worden. De hoogte van het pakket is afhankelijk van de deurhoogte, gelijk aan de interne hoogte van de container. Uitgaand van een pallet van 160 mm hoog is er ruimte voor 2230 mm paneel. Met een framedikte van 40 mm en een kunststof klem van 44, zijn dit totaal 50 panelen. De afmetingen van de pallet maken het mogelijk om in de breedte 2 pallets te plaatsen en in de lengte 7. Op de kopse kant is dan nog circa 1400 mm over tot aan de deur, waardoor hier nog een pallet in de breedte kan staan. Totaal passen er dan 15 pallets in de container en dus totaal 750 panelen. Vergeleken met de huidige verpakkingswijze zijn dat 22 panelen extra.

Goed te hanteren; hier haalt het nieuwe ontwerp de maximale score van 5 omdat er geen additionele draagconstructie meer toegepast wordt. Deze is in het frame geïntegreerd terwijl deze slechts een minimale gewichts- en volumetoename tot gevolg heeft. Dit heeft ook een positieve invloed op ondermeer de logistiek en het verticale transport.

Flexibel toe te passen; het ontwerp zit vast aan het paneel en dus kan deze draagconstructie niet worden toegepast bij andere panelen. Dit is ten opzichte van de huidige Lightbox een minpunt en is slecht voor de marktkansen van het systeem. Hier is echter voor gekozen doordat er in het dak van het kwaliteitshuis te veel negatieve relaties aan deze eigenschap vast zaten. De score is toch een drie omdat het systeem redelijk flexibel is met de paneelopstelling en Ground Coverage Ratio. Dit in tegenstelling tot het T10 systeem.

Snelheid monteren; deze klantwens is in het proces de voornaamste wens geweest en het streven was met de vijf reeds ambitieus. Niettemin, dit ontwerp kan geheel voldoen aan dit streven door de samensmelting van paneel en draagconstructie. Wellicht zal het vullen van de ballastreservoirs nog de meeste tijd kosten.
•
Flexibel te plaatsen; hoewel er in het ontwerp diverse koppelingen plaats vinden, blijft het geheel nog redelijk flexibel als het geplaatst wordt in grotere systemen. Voor kleine systemen is het niet geschikt, doordat het dan de koppelingen verliest, juist de kracht van het systeem. Als er in de systeem lay-out gekozen wordt voor grote vlakken aaneengeschakelde panelen is dit ontwerp uitermate geschikt. Bij nieuwbouw kunnen obstakels op het dak wellicht geclusterd worden waardoor dit montagesysteem nog beter kan worden benut.

Duurzaam na installatie; het toegepaste materiaal is voldoende duurzaam om lang mee te gaan. De stijfheid en duurzaamheid van de scharnieren zal getoetst moeten worden, maar hierin voorzie ik geen problemen. De dakbedekking wordt op de reguliere manier beschermd met rubbergranulaat tegeldragers. Zoals ook bij meer systemen. De bekabeling kan in verre mate worden weggewerkt tegen het frame aan. Hiermee worden loshangende kabels voorkomen en dure kabelgoten uitgespaard. De duurzaamheid van de HDPE paneelklemmen moet nog worden aangetoond. Dit is een wezenlijk onderdeel. Ook de waterreservoirs dienen minimaal 20 jaar mee te gaan. Anders kan het zijn primaire functie verliezen.

Niet te veel ballast; door te kijken naar de regelgeving omtrent windbelastingen en hierop in te spelen met het ontwerp is de hoeveelheid ballast gereduceerd. Daar komt bij de wijze van ballast. Het toepassen van waterreservoirs maakt dat het arbeidsintensieve plaatsen van 30 kg wegende betontegels achterwege kan blijven. De lichte reservoirs worden geplaatst waarna deze direct met water gevuld worden. Dit water wordt met slangen aangevoerd en kost daardoor totaal geen energie. Afhankelijk van het debiet van de waterleidingen gaat dit snel of minder snel. Deze voordelen maken dat het ontwerp een vier scoort op deze klantwens, een punt hoger dan het streven.
•
Fraai; een subjectieve klantwens waar niet veel aandacht aan is besteed. Doordat het geheel gekoppeld is en daarmee een strak uiterlijk krijgt, vind ik de score 3 op zijn plaats.
•
Gunstige prijs; hoewel het paneel aan de inkoopzijde duurder gaat worden door het aangepaste ontwerp, wordt er aan de uitvoeringzijde sterk bespaard. De additionele draagconstructie komt geheel te vervallen. Dit komt voor de Lightbox neer op circa 32 EURO per paneel (0,16 €/Wp * 200Wp) Hier komt nog bovenop de besparing in montagetijd, logistiek en vermindering op de ballastkosten. In hoofdstuk 6 is dit aspect verder uitgewerkt.

11 Reflectie op toepassing QFD Reflectie op toepassing QFD in afstudeeronderzoek Martèn Driesser [ studentnr 513633 ] Onderdeel van het vak Productbeleid [0E310] Tilburg, 03 april 2009 Doelstelling van mijn onderzoek was het creëren van een innovatieve draagconstructie voor zonnepanelen welke zou moeten bijdragen aan de gewenste prijsreductie van deze duurzame energievorm. Nu is zonne-energie nog te duur, maar op termijn dient de techniek zonder overheidsstimulering te kunnen concurreren met de huidige conventionele energievoorzieningen. Er zijn in de markt reeds diverse draagconstructies verkrijgbaar alsook het door het bedrijf waar ik werk geproduceerde Lightbox-concept. Voor het tot stand komen van het ontwerp heb ik gestreefd naar een academische werkwijze voor het opstellen van randvoorwaarden en ontwerpcriteria. Voor de volledigheid en begrijpbaarheid heb ik het gedeelte van mijn scriptie waarin de QFD methodiek is toegepast integraal opgenomen in dit bestand. In eerst instantie heb ik enkel een Pugh Concept Selection Chart uitgevoerd om daarmee aan de hand van diverse criteria een beoordeling te kunnen geven van de producteigenschappen van concurrerende systemen. Idee hierachter was het herkennen van sterke eigenschappen van de afzonderlijke systemen en hieruit de bruikbare aspecten te combineren in een nieuw ontwerp. Aan de hand van beschikbare technische literatuur heb ik enkele van mijn collega’s een Chart in laten vullen alsook ikzelf. Echter bood deze methode mij onvoldoende grip op ontwerpeisen. De uitkomst was een samenvatting van losse kreten die moeilijk op waarde te schatten was. Juist was ik op zoek naar een methodiek welke mij op analytische wijze inzicht zou kunnen verschaffen in de diverse klantwensen en hieraan gekoppeld een waardering van diverse constructies, met name de Lightbox. Met deze resultaten zou ik meer gericht bepaalde onderdelen kunnen herontwerpen om daarmee beter tegemoet te komen in de klantwensen. Dit bracht mij bij het Quality Function Deployment model.
Opstellen klantwensen Startpunt voor de uitvoering van de QFD is het achterhalen van klantwensen die door gebruikers uitgesproken worden voor het systeem. Hiertoe heb ik middels een open schriftelijke enquête diverse mij bekende installateurs gevraagd naar de wensen die zij hebben bij een nieuw ontwerp van een draagconstructie. Mijn doelgroep was snel duidelijk omdat ik zelf nauw betrokken ben bij de realisatie van grootschalige PV systemen met de Lightbox. Het betreft vooral de personen die de systemen op daken monteren. Deze doelgroep was goed gekozen echter de respondenten waren bij nadere beschouwing niet divers genoeg. Alle respondenten waren vooral bekend met de Lightbox. In eerste instantie was dit niet hinderlijk omdat ik een verbeterd ontwerp van dit element voor ogen had. Echter na het voltooien van de QFD kreeg ik als ontwerper

het inzicht dat het nieuwe ontwerp het Lightbox-concept geheel los zou moeten laten. Een meer diverse doelgroep met meer ervaring met andere systemen zou waarschijnlijk meer bruikbare algemene klantwensen opgeleverd hebben. Tevens heb ik gekozen voor een open schriftelijke enquête omdat ik hiermee tijdwinst hoopte te boeken. Het aantal respondenten viel echter tegen; van de acht verstuurde verzoeken kwamen er drie terug. In de bijlage zijn deze reacties weergegeven alsook het enquêteformulier. Deze reacties verschillen sterk in opzet en ook in bruikbaarheid: • De uitgesproken klantwensen van Hijlke Boonstra zijn benoemd vanuit een objectieve visie en hij heeft de Lightbox als constructie redelijkerwijs losgelaten. De genoemde onderdelen zijn voldoende algemeen om de ontwerper vrijheid te geven in de interpretatie van de klantwens; “geschikt om…”; • Johan Bakker is minder geslaagd in een algemene beschrijving van zijn wensen. Hij borduurt voort op het Lightbox-concept en treedt enorm in detail. Hij hanteert ook het woord verbeteringen waarmee hij onbedoeld de rol van de ontwerper overneemt; • De onderdelen welke Barry Smits noemt zijn weer veel algemener te bestempelen al hebben de antwoorden ook wat vaags over zich heen; “draagbaar” en “weinig extra onderdelen”. Deze wensen roepen direct vragen op als “hoe draagbaar?” en “minder extra onderdelen ten opzichte van wat?”; • Mijn eigen lijst was wel beter gespecificeerd maar ik wist uiteraard exact wat er gevraagd werd. Ook had ik als ontwerper reeds enkele elementen in mijn hoofd waardoor de gegeven antwoorden iets beïnvloed zijn. Zo is de wens “iets verzinnen op ballasttegels” een voortvloeisel uit het idee om water als ballast toe te passen. Dit had ik reeds eerder bedacht. Met deze ontvangen reacties heb ik de definitieve klantwensen opgesteld. Ondanks mijn overtuiging dat de klantwensen redelijk correct de waarheid benaderen vind ik de wijze van totstandkoming minder sterk. Het aantal respondenten viel tegen waardoor er geen trend in de antwoorden heeft kunnen ontstaan. Ook de kwaliteit van de antwoorden liet te wensen over. De open enquête was hier bij nader inzien toch niet geheel op zijn plaats. Bij een interview zou ik in staat zijn geweest om bijvoorbeeld Bakker de juiste richting in te sturen en bij Smits door te vragen naar wat hij dan verstond onder zijn vage wensen. Inschalen belangen aan klantwensen Bij het opstellen van de belangen die gekoppeld zijn aan de klantwensen heb ik zelf de inschaling gemaakt. Hierbij heb ik uiteraard ook geluisterd naar de respondenten maar mijn eigen overtuiging heeft hier wel zwaarder gewogen. Zo heeft de wens duurzaam een vier gekregen terwijl die niet veelvuldig of nadrukkelijk wordt genoemd door de respondenten. Dit geldt ook voor de wens snelheid monteren. Na een gesprek met Smits was ook hij overtuigd dat, toen ik mijn interpretatie van deze wens uitsprak, dit een belangrijk aspect was. In eerste instantie zou deze wens lager scoren. Dat ik hier de waarden zo heb gemanipuleerd is uiteraard niet geheel correct maar de gegeven feedback maakte dit mijn inziens noodzakelijk. De kwaliteit van de antwoorden was te laag om hier kwantitatieve data uit te filteren.

Ook moet gezegd worden dat de spreiding in de tabel matig is. Slechts eenmalig heb ik een twee durven geven en eenmaal een vijf. Hierdoor liggen de belangen te dicht bij elkaar wat het functioneren van de matrix niet ten goede komt. Concurrentieonderzoek Wezenlijk onderdeel van de QFD vormt het concurrentieonderzoek. Hierin worden vergelijkbare producten beoordeeld in de mate van beantwoording van de verschillende klantwensen. In deze analyse is enkel voor de systemen Lightbox, Flatfix en Console een op ervaring gebaseerde beoordeling opgesteld. Deze systemen zijn mij bekend. De overige systemen zijn beoordeeld aan de hand van de beschikbare informatie via internet en vakbladen. Dit is wel een zwakke manier van beoordelen omdat het in wezen nooit voldoende grondig kan gebeuren en systemen wellicht diverse eigenschappen bezitten die nu verkeerd worden ingeschat. Wel heb ik de uitkomsten bij diverse collega’s geverifieerd en er werden geen afwijkende scores geconstateerd. Overigens kwam de eerder opgestelde Pugh Concept Selection Chart hier weer van pas. De toegepaste Likertschaal is volgens de QFD methodiek zeer bruikbaar maar ook in deze tabel is te ontdekken dat de spreiding matig is. Slechts eenmalig is een vijf toegekend en dan ook nog aan een subjectieve klantwens. Onderbewust zal ik bij de inschaling ruimte hebben gelaten voor een hoge streefwaarde. De kolommen in het Benchmark-gedeelte worden rekenkundig gevuld met uitzondering van de streefwaarden. Deze streefwaarden worden door de ontwerper opgesteld na evaluatie van het concurrentieonderzoek. Dit is in de matrix ook gebeurd maar de scores die hieruit volgen zijn gerelateerd aan de huidige scores van een bepaald ontwerp, hier de Lightbox. Indien een toekomstig ontwerp wezenlijk af zal wijken van het oorspronkelijke ontwerp verliest de verbeterfactor en daarmee ook het gewicht deels zijn waarde. Immers zal het nieuwe ontwerp sowieso dienen te voldoen aan de huidige eigenschappen en van daaruit te verbeteren. Dit manco is te verklaren doordat ik in eerste instantie zoekende was naar een verbetert ontwerp van de Lightbox. Later werd mij helder dat ik met het huidige systeemconcept niet de gestelde streefwaarden kon vervullen en resulteerde dit in een geheel nieuw ontwerp. De kernmatrix In de kolommen van de kernmatrix zijn technische functies opgesteld die voor de ontwerper de vertaalslag maken van de klantwensen. In de bijlage is de motivering weergegeven van deze functies. Ondanks de voor mij plausibele keuzes in deze functies proef ik in mijn eigen verhaal dat ik ergens op aan stuur. Uiteraard heb ik als ontwerper iets in mijn hoofd en hier werk ik ook naar toe. Ook zijn de technische functies niet ver genoeg uitgewerkt. Er is in een kolom bij voorbeeld gegeven aantal onderdelen of gewicht. Echter zijn deze onderdelen niet kwantitatief uitgewerkt. Wat wordt er bedoeld met “meer onderdelen dan…” of “lichter dan…” Met deze vage functies is het niet eenvoudig vergelijkingen met concurrerende systemen te maken op deze onderdelen. In de matrix zijn de relaties gewaardeerd tussen de klantwensen en de technische functies. Dit gebeurt middels de schaalverdeling 9,3,1 of geen relatie. Een goede motivering ontbreekt in het geheel maar de matrix is naar mijn mening correct in ingevuld. Wat ik tijdens het invullen echter miste was een discussie die hoort bij dit

proces. Ik heb uiteraard wel bij iedere relatie zelf afwegingen gemaakt maar tegenspraak heb ik hierin niet hoeven dulden. Deze aspecten zorgen ervoor dat de QFD uiteindelijk geen richtlijnen voor het ontwerpproces oplevert maar juist inzicht verschaft in het ontwerpbeleid. Ook het dak van het kwaliteitshuis is hierin meegenomen. Tot nu toe heeft het huis dus enkel ondersteund in het herkennen van klantwensen, het benoemen van belangrijke technische functies en deze functies (gekoppeld aan de verbeterfactor) kwantificeren op prioriteit. Deze prioritering vormt de basis van het ontwerpproces in hoofdstuk 5. In dit proces worden ontwerpen opgesteld, concepten uitgedacht en problemen opgelost. Middels uitgebreide beschrijvingen heb ik de lezer aan de hand genomen langs mijn gedachtegang om deze onderdelen op te lossen, zoals materiaalkeuze, scharnierpunten en klemmen. Ook het opschonen van het dak van het kwaliteitshuis valt hieronder. Dit proces komt overeen met het kantelen van de matrices van het kwaliteitshuis, van onderdelen, procesplanning naar productieplanning. Dit kantelen gebeurde in wezen in mijn hoofd waar ik bij de afwegingen steeds vooruit dacht zoals onderdeelkeuze en montageprincipes. Echter was dit proces niet zo gestructureerd en geordend als het kantelen in de theorie kan zijn. Helaas is de juiste correcte diepgang in dit proces niet gehaald. Maar ik heb gepoogd een zo volledig mogelijk concept neer te zetten en het is ook niet mijn bedoeling geweest een blauwprint op te stellen voor het productieproces. Dit vervolg kan eventueel in een volgend proces plaats vinden middels ondermeer de FMEA, DFAM en Taguchi methoden.

Island protection
An AC fault in any of the phases will disable all three power modules. Redundant voltage and frequency window monitoring (QNS). Independent cut-off by means of 2 pole relay and solid state switch (ENS) according to VDE 0126-1-1:2006.
