BIOGRAFI TAMU Prof. Nigel Clayton, Piano Nigel Clayton studied with Stephen Savage and Angus Morrison at the Royal College of Music London, where he won prizes in every category of piano performance and was awarded the College’s yearly prize for his Bachelor of Music Degree. Whilst there, a particular interest in chamber music and accompanying developed and was further encouraged by international prizes from competitions in London, New York (Concert Artist Guild) and from the English Speaking Union. Since then his worldwide travel has included four major tours of India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan with Indian cellist Anup Kumar Biswas, tours of the Middle East and America with Wissam Boustany, of Scandinavia with Gerard LeFeuvre and several throughout Europe; he has also appeared at most of the music clubs and festivals in Great Britain, appearing regularly on the BBC’s radio network, at the Wigmore hall, and at the South Bank Centre, where he has given more than fifty recitals. Nigel continues to perform as a soloist and has played over one hundred solo recitals on board British luxury cruise liners SS Canberra, Oriana, Victoria and Arcadia; he has performed concertos by Beethoven, Grieg, Schumann, Shostakovich, Ravel, Rachmaninov, Liszt and Mozart (directed from the keyboard), and was a soloist in Poulenc’s two piano concerto in the Royal Albert Hall whilst a junior student at the Royal College of Music. He has performed many times in Japan including two concerto performances in Tokyo and a solo recital tour and since 2013 has made regular recital and lecture tour of Indonesia. Apart from longstanding partnerships with Gina McCormack, Lionel Handy, Elizabeth Anderson, Michael Cox, Lorraine McAslan and Joan Enric Lluna, Nigel has appeared with Madeleine Mitchell, Michael Collins, Sylvia Marcovici, Ofra Harnoy, Tasmin Little and Bryan Rayner Cook, the Chilingirian, Sorrel, Bridge, Maggini and Bingham Quartets and with instrumentalists from Japan, Korea, Canada, Spain, America, Poland and Iceland. His twenty year partnership with violinist Beth Spendlove has resulted in more than one hundred recitals particularly in Essex and Suffolk where they also frequently perform as founder members of the Kingfisher Ensemble. He is also a founder member of the Edington Ensemble, a Wiltshire based group, specialising in the piano quartet repertoire. He was engaged for twenty one years as Official Accompanist for the Tibor Varga International Violin Competition in Switzerland and more recently several summer schools there, and has recorded many compact discs. He is principal teacher of piano at the North East of Scotland Music School, Aberdeen, and is a professor on the keyboard faculty at the Royal College of Music, London. For his services in the musical world Nigel was this year awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Music (FRCM) presented by HRH Prince of Wales.
Imma Setiadi, piano Imma Setiadi was born in Surabaya, Indonesia. A fascination for the piano at her home led to lessons with local teachers who suggested a more serious training. This resulted in national prizes from the age of nine and at the age of fifteen, she was invited to perform one of her own compositions in UNICEFYAMAHA Junior Original Concert in Hong Kong. She then continued her studies at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore where she studied with Albert Tiu and gained her Bachelor of Music degree with first class honours. Since her coming to the UK where she is now based, she has performed in many prestigious venues in the country. As a soloist she has appeared at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, the Purcell Room at Southbank Centre, Cheltenham Town Hall, St. James’s Piccadilly, Steinway Hall, Pallant House Gallery Piano Proms, Chichester Cathedral, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and at St. John’s Smith Square, London. As a chamber musician she has performed at the Royal Academy of Arts, Cheltenham Town Hall, Holywell Music Room (Oxford), the National Gallery, RCM Britten Theatre, Blackheath Halls, and Elgar Room at the Royal Albert Hall. In 2013 with her Pacific Trio (violin, clarinet, and piano), she commissioned and premiered the London Tales project, a collection of nine new works by young composers working and living in London, inspired by the different scenes of the City – this was most enthusiastically received at St. Martin-in-the-fields. She made her concerto debut in 2014 performing Shostakovich Piano Concerto 1 at the University Hall, Cambridge with Steve Bingham and the Ad Hoc Sinfonia. Following its success, her concerto engagements have included Schumann Piano Concerto with the City of Peterborough Symphony Orchestra, and the rarely performed Poulenc Aubade and Finzi Eclogue with the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra, St. Albans. Her recent performance with Rusne Mikiskaite (saxophone) at the Sugrizimai Festival in Vilnius was broadcasted by the Lithuanian National Radio. She achieved a Distinction in her Master of Music degree under Nigel Clayton. She recently completed her doctoral studies at the RCM with Nigel Clayton and Amanda Glauert where she explores her interest in creating new concert experiences through performing solo piano repertoire simultaneously alongside other art forms such as painting, dance, and sculpture. This cross-arts collaboration project has been featured at the RCM Great Exhibitionist Series, Trinity Laban Music and Arts Festival and at the Deal Festival. Recently she won the Beethoven Piano Society of Europe Concerto Competition and in previous years she has also received second prize at the National Piano and Violin Competition in Singapore, the RCM Beethoven Kendall Taylor Prize, third prize at the RCM Piano Chamber Music Competition, and runner up in Eastbourne Young Soloist Competition. In masterclasses, she has worked with Michel Beroff, Angela Hewitt, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Ulrich Koella, Pascal Roge and Malcolm Martineau. She has also been engaged as piano accompanist for masterclasses by world renown instrumentalists such as Pinchas Zukerman (violin), James Galway (flute), Melanie Henry (saxophone), and Jacques Tys (oboe). She has been selected as one of young artists for the Park Lane Group (2014/2015 and 2015/2016) and for the Manchester Mid-Day Concerts Society (2015/2016). She was also RCM Gilbert and Eileen Edgar Junior Fellow in Piano Accompaniment for 2015/2016 and is currently a junior fellow in piano accompaniment at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Her future engagement will include concerto performance of Beethoven Emperor for Beethoven Piano Society of Europe Summer Festival, John Carmichael Concerto for piano duet and a return visit to the Bridgewater Hall.
