Hungary: ICT R&D and participation to FP7 Research & Development expenditure in ICT In 2011, public support for ICT R&D (ICT GBAORD) in Hungary was €41.6M, only around 8.5% of total public funding for R&D, which amounted to 0.49% of GDP, below EU average (0.6%); In 2010, business expenditure in R&D in the ICT sector (ICT BERD) in Hungary amounted to €97.4M, down from €110M the year before. The share of ICT in total BERD was at 14.5%, below EU average (19%). Total BERD was 0.7% of GDP, below the EU average (1.2%).
Participation to the ICT theme of FP7 Organisations from Hungary participated to 157 projects (0.9% of total) over the period 2007-2012 and coordinated one project, for total €33M of EC funding1 (0.5% of total funding). Hungarian participation has decreased from ~1% in FP6 to ~0.5% so far in FP7 (2007 –
2012); Over the period 2007 – 2012, 67 organisations have participated to the programme; in
2012 new entrants represented 56% of the total organisations; With 34% of total funding, SME's participation in FP7 ICT is very strong. Conversely, large
companies are very weakly represented (8% of total funding); Participation of Research institutions is strongly concentrated in a handful of
organizations, with the Budapest University of Technology accounting for 24% of the funding received by the entire country;

In terms of funding, the strategic objectives receiving the highest shares are Future
networks and Internet, Networked Media, FET, Trustworthy ICT, Nanoelectronics and Photonics; 88% of funding is concentrated in Budapest, the only hub of the country.

The projects considered are those signed as of 31 December 2012. The report analyses several aspects related to the portfolio of projects, based on descriptive statistical analysis. It provides a consolidated analysis for the years 2007-2012, and analysis on a yearly basis for selected indicators.
