konteks berbeda.
EVERLASTING PRINCIPLES OF KINGDOM GROWTH By Dave Barringer (Source: Outreach Magazine)
One of Jesus’ strategies of preaching that I’ve really tried to learn and master is the ability to connect the kingdom of God to present surroundings and experiences. Jesus was a master at helping listeners understand by turning their attention to things like fields, birds, lost coins and sheep. Tangible metaphors helped explain the kingdom in a way that people of that culture could understand and grow from.
Page 3
For that reason, most of my sermon illustrations come from my personal experiences and not a book. Jesus didn’t get his illustrations from hanging out at the temple every day. He walked around cities and villages and took notice of people and surroundings. I believe if preachers are looking for fresh illustrations, the best ones are waiting for you … • … outside of your office. Be a pastor who is in your community. • … when you spend time with your spouse and/or family. My wife and children have taught me a ton of lessons. But remember, only use family illustrations with their permission. • … during times of leisure and fun. It’s amazing what you can learn about yourself if you stop taking life so seriously and enjoy yourself. • … on vacations. Usually, vacations help lower my guard a bit. And it’s in that place of vulnerability where God speaks to me. If you take a moment to listen, you’ll be surprised at how and where God will speak to you. And for me, one of those moments happened recently in California’s wine country: Napa Valley. I’ll admit—I was nervous about being in a winery. I remember telling my wife and kids: “No one post anything on social media,” out of fear of what people would assume. In my denomination, there has been so much recent debate about alcohol, and the last thing I wanted was a fantastic experience— and one of the best vacations of my life—to turn into a social media controversy. I wasn’t there to drink. I was spending time with some amazing friends and experiencing a tour of a historic winery. The guide walked us through a variety of locations. He would stop and tell us about the winemaking process, while also interjecting some history. The more he talked, the more notes I typed into my phone. I remember
Page 4
turning to my wife at one point and saying, “Every pastor should take this tour.” I learned that the vineyard owner would find the most difficult soil and plant there. Easy, fertile soil produced fast growth but sour fruit. Vineyard owners discovered that the harder the plant worked, the sweeter the resulting fruit. (Insert church planting or discipleship illustration here.) In addition to the vast amount of new knowledge I acquired from the vine, I really grasped some kingdom lessons that came from the history the man behind the vineyard. He has been referred to as the face of the Napa Valley: Robert Mondavi. Here are some simple pastoral lessons about kingdom growth that were inspired by Robert Mondavi. 1. I am not here to build my empire. I’m called to build the kingdom. Prohibition was devastating to Napa Valley. Not only was the region economically shut down, but people came to the Valley and started burning the vineyards. Many families’ livelihoods—not to mention their homes— were in those fields. People lost everything. Robert Mondavi was one of the few whose fields survived. When Prohibition was lifted, he welcomed those who lost everything to come to work for him. He didn’t see others as rivals. He saw broken people. For far too long, we have treated the other churches in our community and city as rivals. The competitive spirit among pastors deeply saddens me. Why? Because I used to be there. I saw other churches as nothing more than the ministries I needed to “beat.” I get it. I’ve been at the place where coveting, envy and frustration crowded out my passion and vision. I totally get being so frustrated with your lack of results that you start pointing fingers at other pastors and churches instead
of checking your own heart and seeing the Enemy as your opponent. Mondavi reminds me of the pastor who took me in and showed me that the kingdom always trumps empire. He showed me that success wasn’t about the size of my ministry but the expansion of the kingdom of God. Pastors are co-laborers and not rivals. We, together, serve Jesus. Which leads me to … 2. I am to freely pour out what has been poured into me. What Robert Mondavi had, he offered to others. This man gave displaced families and workers an opportunity to learn from and engage in what he was doing. Nothing was hidden. He shared his methods and talents. And when they were in a place to move out on their own, he helped them to start their own vineyards. This is a mentality I didn’t always understand. I think I was more worried about making a name for myself, my church and my denomination than I was about lifting up the name of Jesus. I think we’re sometimes so worried about branding OUR church that we’ve forgotten WHO the church really belongs to. Don’t get me wrong; I’m fine with branding, marketing and doing things with excellence—as long as it exalts the name of Jesus. One of the greatest decisions I ever made (and continue to make) is learning from mentors. If you’re waiting for mentors to chase you, you’re missing the point of mentorship. Growth comes when we lower our pride and admit we need help. This is why, in the midst of my own ministry hurt, I ran after Robert Mondavi-type pastors who weren’t jealous of others but were zealous for the kingdom. I desperately needed (and still need) pastors who were willing to share what they had without any worry of reciprocation. And because of their faithfulness, it increased my passion and filled me with hope for a future of healthy ministry.
Page 5
Because I freely I received, I now want to freely give to anyone who comes to me as God gives the opportunities. 3. Networking means “God is working.” God works in community. Our guide told us that when Robert Mondavi learned something new, he would call together the local vineyard owners to share what he had discovered. Why? He philosophy was, “When I help others, I raise the vintage of the Valley.” This was completely contradictory to my human nature and what I had learned in the early days of ministry. In my broken pastoral mind, what I had was mine, and if I shared it, I would have to share the “success” that rightfully belonged to me. Not only that, but IF I shared it, I wanted to make sure I raised the “vintage of my reputation.” I was driven to build MY church, not realizing that it wasn’t mine to begin with. I am eternally grateful for the healthy pastors who spoke into my life for the purpose of “raising the vintage of the kingdom.” I’m thankful for the Pauls (mentors) and Barnabases (encouragers) who unselfishly poured into me from their own failures and successes, from their creativity and dreams. The more I networked with other leaders, the more health I began to see in my ministry. Allowing people to speak into me led to a deeper movement of God in my life. I don’t think that happens by chance. Scripture is proof that God works through community. We just have to drop our pride and allow it to happen. I really wish I could take all pastors through that tour of the vineyard. Apart from leaning about wine, vines and crop growth (which is brought up so often in Scripture), these three kingdom lessons have transformed my ministry philosophy. Today, make a commitment in your heart to take a new turn in ministry. Make the decision to raise the vintage of the kingdom by taking strategic next steps to see kingdom health in your life.
Repent of selfishness and give God your brokenness. Chase a mentor. Be a mentor. Share some of your failures. Celebrate God’s victories. And when God does something new to you, call up another pastor to talk about it. Raise the vintage of the kingdom today. “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Your job is the lampstand that God has ordained where you let your light shine! You have been saved out of the world and then sent back into the world to witness to the world, and that's the only business in the world you have in the world, till you're taken out of the world! Now, let me give you four rules for witnessing to those with whom you work.
By Adrian Rogers “In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.” (Proverbs 14:23) I've heard people say, I sure would like to be in a Christian company and be surrounded by Christians. The only time I hear God's name mentioned where I work now is when people are cursing. And you just cannot believe the obscene jokes, gossip, greed, back-stabbing, throatcutting, and all of the materialism! Oh if God would only get me out of this place so I could serve Him! Do you know how I would respond? I would tell them, God put you in that place so you could serve Him. We are to let our light shine in every place where God has places us! Matthew 5:14-16 says:
Page 6
Don't Brag The Bible says let your light shine. It doesn't say make it shine. Your light is to glow, not glare. Also, people are to see the light, not the source of the light. If you go to work with an air of selfrighteousness, you're going to make your coworkers sick and not want to even be around you. 1 Corinthians 1:30-31 says: “It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: "Let him who boasts boast in the Lord." Don't Nag If you’re always thumping a Bible or nagging somebody when he gambles, smokes, or curses, you're not going to win that person to Christ. You may think that you're doing a good job, but that person is not going to take a step closer
to Jesus Christ through that kind of witness.
Jesus on your face, they're going to ask you, "What makes you so happy?"
You see, his behavior is not his problem. You would be just like that person if you didn't know the Lord Jesus Christ. He needs Jesus Christ. So let's see how we are to respond from Colossians 4:5-6:
And at that moment, you're going to be able to share the Lord Jesus with him because you will have sanctified the Lord God in your heart. 1 Peter 3:15 says:
“Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”
“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.” Excerpt
Don't Lag If you're a lazy Christian—not getting to work on time, doing personal stuff on company time, procrastinating on work that you ought to do, then you're a disgrace to grace. It is a sin for a Christian to do less than his best. Let's revisit Colossians 3:23-24 says: “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.” Don't see if the boss is looking before you work hard. I don't care how dull or boring, it may seem. It's not that way…if you're working to the glory of God. Do your job to the best of your ability. Don't Sag I want to tell you something about those people with whom you work. Most of them are not all that interested in going to heaven or hell. They just want to know how to hack it on Monday. And when they see you come in the office without a hangover and with the joy of the Lord

Keilahian TUHAN Yesus Kristus. Kelahiran-Nya dari rahim seorang Perawan. Karya penebusan dosa manusia melalui kematian-Nya diatas kayu salib. Kebangkitan-Nya.

the joys in heaven which we have not yet seen. The troubles will soon be over, but the joys to come will last forever. (2 Corinthians 4:16-18 TLB). The surest word in the universe Jesus promises that there is a real place called heaven, and you have His word on it— the surest word in the entire universe. Now when Jesus said, "In My Father's house are many mansions," I don't believe He was speaking of a celestial Beverly Hills with beautiful, palatial mansions for those who live really godly lives on Earth. The Amplified Bible renders this verse: "In My Father's house there are many dwelling places (or homes)." By Greg Laurie “In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”—John 14:2 We don't have to be stressed out or troubled in our hearts because, as Christians, our destination is eternal life in heaven. No matter what happens, no one can rob us of that great hope. Maybe you've lost your job or your car won't start. Maybe you have all kinds of problems in your life right now--but you are still going to heaven. The apostle Paul encouraged the church with these words: That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our inner strength in the Lord is growing every day. These troubles and sufferings of ours are, after all, quite small and won't last very long. Yet this short time of distress will result in God's richest blessing upon us forever and ever! So we do not look at what we can see right now, the troubles all around us, but we look forward to
Page 9
Who can begin to imagine what these "homes" or "dwelling places" will be like? All I know is that Jesus Himself—the One who created the universe with all its wonders— has been working on preparing a place for us for more than 2,000 years. I can only imagine I agree with Paul when he wrote: "No mere man has ever seen, heard, or even imagined what wonderful things God has ready for those who love the Lord" (2 Corinthians 2:9 TLB). Jesus has promised us that we will be together with Him in heaven, for eternity, in the place He has prepared for us. And He will keep His word.
