[email protected] Office Hours: Friday 10:00 – 11:00 or by appointment This seminar introduces students into the sources of fourteenthcentury Central Europe and inquires about the possible interpretations of the Angevin expansion. Scrutinizing the charter evidence and narrative sources, we will deal with the implantation of the Angevin rulers in Hungary, with social and political changes, as well as with cultural innovations. What policies did the Angevin rulers follow in Central Europe? What were the major tendencies of dynastic diplomacy in the trecento? How did Angevin rulers combine religion and politics? We will address a large spectrum of problems from the question of female rulership to political theory and from crusader ideals to East West relationship.
