The Czech Republic is situated in the middle of Europe. It is an inland country. The CR borders with four countries: Poland, Germany, Austria and Slovakia. The population is about 10 million. It is divided into Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia. The countryside is beautiful: there are mountains, lowlands, big rivers and small streams, southern Bohemia is famous for its ponds. The climate is mild – four seasons changes. (spring, summer, autumn, winter). Weather in spring is usually a bit cold, showers are quite frequent. Temperatures in summer can be up to 30 degrees with storms in the evening. Autumn is colourful, - trees are orange, yellow and red. Temperatures are falling down, there are fogs in the morning. Winter is sometimes snowy, sometimes muddy. Temperatures are below zero. Czech cuisine is said to be unhealthy: it is full of fat and sugar, without vegetables. A typical Czech meal is usually with a sauce and dumplings. However, the number of people who try to eat more healthy is increasing. The most enlarged sport is probably football. A lot of people often in advanced age) are interested in cycling and walking. Young people play volleyball, some of them enjoy adrenaline sports. The capital city is Prague. West Bohemian Spas: Františkovy Lázně, Karlovy Vary, Mariánské Lázně Drinking mineral waters has been popular since the 18th century. Many famous people, also from abroad, have visited these spas. Today, apart from the Czechs, it is mostly Germans and Russians who come to be treated here. Karlštejn Castle is a large Gothic castle founded 1348 by Charles IV. Located about 30 km southwest of Prague it is one of the most famous and most frequently visited castles In the Czech Republic. The castle served as a place for safekeeping the Bohemian/Czech crown jewels and other royal treasures.
Sněžka is a mountain on the border between the Czech Republic and Poland. At 1,602 metres its top is the highest point in the Czech Republic. The area is very popular in summer with tourists from Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany who enjoy hiking. On the Czech side are the remains of the Bohemian hut, a post office, and a chairlift station, connecting the peak with the town of Pec pod Sněžkou at the base of the mountain.
The Pravčická brána is located in the Bohemian Switzerland in the Czech Republic. The narrow rock formation is the largest natural sandstone arch in Europe. The region of The Bohemian Switzerland is very good especially for hiking lovers. It offers many touristic trails leading through the scenery of the rocky towns, the passes (průsmyky), deep gorges (rokle) and hillsides. View Towers Most of them were built at the beginning of the 20th century. They are closely connected with the development of tourism and became hugely popular then, and still are. They are dominant features of the countryside and offer views of the surroundings. View tower can differ in shape, building, material and height.
Tábor Žižka‘s followers founded the town of Tábor and made it their seat and centre of the movement in 1420.Even today We can see some places connected with them. It is the second largest town in South Bohemia.
