Ezúttal szeretném újra megemlíteni a jelenlegi égetően fontos prioritásunkat: a Magyar Ház vásárlási tervét.
OCTOBER 2012
Board’s Column According to a recent decision, all Board members will take turns to write the Board’s Column. I am the first lucky “volunteer”, since Zsuzsa Krupanics and I are the organizers of the most important event in October: the commemoration of the anticommunist uprising of 1956. October also marks the anniversary of the execution of the military leaders of the 1848 revolution. Both of these very significant and tragic events should prompt us to contemplate our history, since accurate historical knowledge is not only part of a national identity but is also helpful in preventing recurrences of past mistakes. After the summer hiatus we are back at organizing the fall and winter programs – the Hungarian School, the folk dance group, and the Seniors Club, all of which are doing really well. The events will cover a broad range of activities, from historical commemoration to a fun party, from literary presentation to the traditional Christmas celebration. We wish to attract and include a broad range of members in all of our activities and we always welcome feedback, ideas, requests, and volunteers. An important event in the month of September was the visit of the new Consul General and Consul from Los Angeles. Dr. Laszlo Kalman and Dr. Oliver Pinter introduced themselves and their vision for their tenure, and provided us with the opportunity to file citizenship and passport applications. I’d also like to return again to our hottest priority - the acquisition of a Hungarian House. President Zsuzsa Stanfield has written multiple articles and done a number of presentations in every media, including the Association’s web page and Facebook page about the current situation and the minimal criteria for a house. We’d like to thank everybody for all their support and we are hoping that many more donations will come our way soon. It is up to all of us to realize this long held dream while the housing market is still to our advantage! I wish all members good health and joy, and I’m looking forward to seeing you at different events. Zsoka Jakab Cultural Chair

Szabadság, szerelem 2006, 123 min, in Hungarian with English subtitles Children of Glory (Szabadság, szerelem in Hungarian, which means Freedom, love, after the lines of Sándor Petőfi, the martyred poet of the 1848–49 revolution) commemorates Hungary's heroic Revolution of 1956, and takes place in Budapest and at the Melbourne Olympic Games in October and November of that year. While Soviet tanks were destroying Hungary, the Hungarian water polo team was beating the Soviets in the Olympic pool in Melbourne, in what has been described as the bloodiest water polo match in history.

Konzuli látogatás

OCTOBER 2012
Írta /By: Katalin Pearman
Kihelyezett konzuli nap keretében Seattle-be látogatott a Los Angeles-i főkonzulátusról Dr. Kálmán László főkonzul és Dr. Pintér Olivér konzul. 10 évesek, akik most Los Angeles-ben járnak állami iskolába. A Los Angeles-i főkonzulátus óriási földrajzi területért felelős, 19 állam tartozik hozzájuk, Texas-tól nyugatra, beleértve Alaszkát és Hawaii-t is.
Consul’s Visit
Consul General Dr. László Kálmán and Consul Dr. Olivér Pintér from the Los Angeles Consulate General visited Seattle for a Remote Consular Day. Following their morning arrival, they accepted citizenship applications from 21 Hungarians living outside of Hungary, then in the afternoon they met with local Hungarians at the Mercer Island Presbyterian Church’s Fireside Room. Besides casual conversation, they gave a short talk about their backgrounds, their plans, and spoke generally about the role of the General Consulate. They thanked us for the invitation and expressed their happiness that so many people would like to take advantage of receiving Hungarian citizenship. They told the audience that in Hungary and around the world work at consulates has greatly increased because of the many new applications but they added it was a ”happy burden”. Consul General Dr. László Kálmán is 51 years old, he graduated with a law degree from Pécs University but he was more interested in international relations than in practicing law, so he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and received his diplomatic education there. He attended several American universities throughout the years. After missions in Iraq and in the Ukraine (Kárpátalja) he was named Consul at the Los Angeles Consulate General, then this year he was promoted to Consul General. He is married and his wife is a teacher. They have two daughters, 8 and 10 years old, who attend public school in Los Angeles. Dr. Olivér Pintér is 32 years old; he also graduated with a law degree from Szeged. He worked in the Ministry of Finance for a long time and is an expert in EU matters. Recently he was ’lured’ away by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. On July 1st he started his consular career in Los Angeles. His wife is a judge in Hungary, right now she is on leave without pay, so she could come with her husband during his mission. They would like to start a family soon. The Consul General and the Consul are a perfect match because one of them is more acquainted with diplomacy, while the other with law and regulatory topics. Dr. Pintér told us that his days start by scrutinizing the Magyar Közlöny (Official Informant) because the regulations change almost daily. Dr. Kálmán told us that all the aspects of the Hungarian relations interest him be it social, cultural, clerical, commercial or scientific, as these are all forces that reinforce our Hungarian identity. He and his family are trying to take part in all kinds of gatherings. His daughters are Hungarian scouts, the night before he came he was at a scout meeting until 11 PM. They are responsible for a huge geographic area. Nineteen states are under their jurisdiction, everything west of Texas, including Alaska and Hawaii. Although the various areas and populations have various needs, in all application or case they do their jobs according to the rules of the profes-

According to the 2010 citizenship decree all Hungarians can be also officially become Hungarian, and as such can participate in the Hungarian public administration, regardless of whether they live in Csángóland (Moldavia), in Transylvania, in Sidney or in Seattle. Dr. Kálmán asked us all to talk Hungarian at home with our children, in order to hand down to them this extraordinary treasure and so keep our Hungarian identity worldwide. Consul General Dr. László Kálmán and Consul Dr. Olivér Pintér said that if it fills a need, they will plan on coming regularly to hold remote consular days in Seattle, so everybody should not have to travel to Los Angeles in order to settle their matters. We thank them for sacrificing their weekend in order to visit us and we hope that we will be able to host them, along with their families soon.

I always include the following statement in my note to the Hungarian school families: “ We teachers are busy preparing for the first class”. What I am not writing is that we are not only enthusiastically preparing for classes, but are also anxious about how well the first day will go, and whether the children will like all the activities. While searching for stories, songs and games, copying forms, and browsing the Internet, I am always pondering about what the children would like the best, and what would be the easiest way for them to learn about a certain topic.
Az idén nagyon jól indult az iskola. Bár Kapás Krisztina visszaköltözött Budapestre, Bollyky Pali, aki eddig a közös játékokat szervezte, elvállalta, hogy a kiscsoportot is tanítja az idén. Bede Emese nagyon elfoglalt lett mióta Tekla megszületett. A középső csoportot mostantól Burai Andi tanítja. Köszönöm szépen mindkettőtöknek és sok sikert kívánok!
This year the school had an excellent start. While Krisztina Kapás moved back to Budapest, we were lucky to have Pali Bollyky, who ran the games last year, take her place as the teacher for our little ones. Emese Bede is really busy since Tekla was born, so Andi Burai now teaches our second age group. Big thanks to both of our new volunteer teachers!
As usual, we kicked off the day by registering families, while the children were playing. The whole day ran very smoothly with classes, snacks and acting out a fun story. It was great to see all the known faces, and we were happy to welcome new families as well. I hope we will have more and more families join our regular programs. If you have not visited the Hungarian School yet, and you are interested to learn more, please feel free to stop by any time. You can join the school at any time. All are welcome.

A Kisbetyárok tánccsoport szombati próbáival megkezdte 29. Minden érdeklődőt szívesen látunk a próbánkon.

Néhány változás várható a tábor programjában.

Many of our readers are aware that there is a week-long Ti Ti Tábor Hungarian Music and Dance camp held every August right here in the Puget Sound area! This past summer the camp celebrated its 20th year! To my knowledge, this is one of the longest lasting and oldest Hungarian folk camps in the US. When the long-time organizers of Ti Ti Tábor announced their retirement this spring, it was uncertain whether any group could fill their shoes! However, five brave new organizers from our Hungarian community have stepped up to the job of putting together the camp for 2013: Katalin Gyulai, Kathryn and Sue Isely, Michael (Zsolt) Móricz, and Rush Velcsov. There will be a few changes in the camp’s program. It is especially exciting to offer a new full day children's program next summer that will include dancing, singing, music, folk arts, and outdoor activities for families. We will be giving more information about this in upcoming months. Although the new organizers will work closely with the HAAW, Ti Ti Tábor Hungarian Folk Camp will continue to be a separate organization. The process of obtaining a nonprofit status for the camp is well under way. We are dedicated to raising funds so that camp can be more affordable. We also want to continue the existing scholarship program for young adults who are new to the Hungarian folk arts. So if you would like to help us by making a donation to Ti Ti Tábor or if you have a place of employment that matches donations for 501(c)(3) organizations, you can let Rush or Zsolt know by emailing them at

After summer vacation, it was great to see everyone again at Forever Young. We enjoyed making friends with a new couple as well as sharing our summer memories with familiar friends. Even if you have not been before, you become a friend and always feel welcome.
What’s great about the Forever Young get together is the relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, just a place where everyone can come together for a great visit and have something to eat. Also, we have our meeting place for three and a half hours, so if you have a busy day and need a little relaxation and friendship and something to eat, you can also “pop in” for a short time and be on your way.
Általában egy hónapban egyszer találkozunk. A következő összejövetelünk október 27-én szombaton lesz, a Mercer Island Presbiteriánus Templom Fireside termében. Remélem megint találkozunk.

Consul’s Corner
Kedves Barátaim,
Dear Friends:
Someone again recently came to me who had received a long letter from the Hungarian Customs and Tax Office because a relative of his died and he inherited some of the assets. He had not even heard about how much or what he had inherited but already he received a Hungarian money order to pay the inheritance tax or appeal within 15 days. The biggest problem was that he did not understand at all what they wanted from him. I would like to ask everybody, in case you hear about a problem like this, to tell the person to turn to me. The Hungarian legal language is complex and the official letters make it even more complicated by quoting each law by number and by date. The three/four page letter can usually be summarized in as many sentences and I can tell them what they need to do or their options. Naturally this does not apply to those who can understand such letters. This help is free. The only time money is involved is if a notarization needs to be made in reply to the letter. In this case there is a consular fee for the notarization only.

Felhívás DP Emigráció története Calling for historical documents about the DP Emigration Várdy Béla történészprofesszor a “DP” (Dipi, Displaced Persons) emigrációnak a történetét kutatja új könyvéhez. History professor Béla Várdy is researching the history of emigration of “DP” (displaced people) for his new book. This wave of emigrants left Hungary in 1944-45, at the time of the collapse of the Horthy regime, (followed by the Szálasi regime), and the occupation of Hungary by Soviet troops. For a few years they lived in refugee camps in Germany, Austria, and Italy. Between 1949-1953 most of them emigrated to other European countries: England, France, the Scandinavian states, or overseas to the USA, Canada, Australia, South America. They came to the USA after the two DP laws (Displaced Persons Act, 1948, 1950; the McCarran-Walter Immigration and Naturalization Act, 1952; as well as the Refugee Relief Act, 1953) were enacted. In the USA, they built the largest overseas Hungarian community following Second World War. (the refugees joined them after the 1956 uprising). Although the number of the displaced people was around 125,000 (26,000 came to the USA), the scientific literature related to them is very small and incomplete. Professor Várdy’s work would be made much easier if those who owned some resource material (documents, letters, published or unpublished memoirs, association circulars, programs, etc.) in connection with this topic, would send either the original, a copy, or in digitized form to the address below:

JUHÁSZ GYULA: Ősz Opálos színei bágyadt ködében Leszáll reám a kora alkonyat, Kései tűzrózsák nyílnak a réten S az égen a mély csöndesség fogad. Nagy topolyafák gallya hullong gyéren És sötétben hallgat a tó S a kolomp úgy méláz a lomha légben, Mint altató. Hűs szele húz át az ősznek a réten, Fázik a lelkem, érzi a deret, Keresnék valamit a messzeségben, Kihunyt fényt, elnémult üzenetet... Oly hirtelen borult az est fölébem S az ősz oly gyorsan rámtalált, Úgy állok itt a hervadó vidéken, Mint a topolyafák.

Magyar hangokkal telt meg az erdei ösvény a Rattlesnake hegyi túránk során szeptember 16-án. Huszonegy lelkes egyesületi tagunk - 5-től 70 évesig - kapaszkodott fel a meredek szirtre.
Hungarian could be heard spoken on the slopes of Rattlesnake Mountain on September 16th! The steep trail was ascended by 21 HAAW members and friends ranging from 5 to 70 years old.
A kellemesen meleg időben jólesett fáradt lábainkat lehűteni a tó vízében. A magasból nagyszerű kilátás tárult elénk: lent a kék vízű tó és fejünk fölött a közép-washingtoni tüzek okozta füst rétegek, amelyek nyugatra keresztülhatoltak a Cascade-ken.
The weather was splendid and warm enough that the lake below offered a cool refresher for the feet after the descent. The views from the top were excellent and we could even see a smoke layer that had penetrated west across the Cascades from the fires in Central Washington.
ATTENTION Az év utolsó WMASz októberi kirándulása Seattle városának “hátsó kertjébe” visz minket.
This year’s last HAAW hike will be in Seattle's backyard!
Október 7-én 10:30-kor találkozunk a Discovery Park északi parkolójában.
On Sunday, October 7th at 10:30 a.m. we will meet at the Discovery Park North Parking Lot where we'll be hiking a 3 mile (5 km) loop around the park, taking in the beautiful fall foliage scenery and a "geo-cached" surprise near the end of the loop! Bring a snack or light lunch. Appropriate for all ages.
Kérdéseivel forduljon Jeff Lerner-hez a 206-681-6178 telefonszámon.
Afterwards, if we get hungry enough, we'll go eat delicious seafood at Ray's Boathouse Cafe overlooking the sound. Contact Jeff Lerner at 206.681.6178 with any questions. No hike if it pours

Obituary of George Gyula Szucs
Dr. George Gyula Szucs died September 18, 2012 at the age of 88 years. He claimed his greatest accomplishment was his family and he leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Margit Szucs, 3 adult children, Lite Szucs of Tacoma, Zsuzsa Blaine of Bellingham, and Eva Carleton of Gig Harbor. He has 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren mostly all living in the greater Northwest, but a few spread out to as far as Alaska, California, and Utah. We all dearly loved him and we know and felt how much he loved us. George was an old-time family doctor practicing in Bellevue since the early ’60-s. He took care of patients when Overlake Hospital was a 20-bed community facility and Bellevue had only one stop light and Nordstrom was a shoe store. He delivered hundreds of babies who are themselves now grandparents and parents in the larger King county area. He was loved by his patients and was a kind and excellent doctor. Even as an 80 year old he would frequently attend the “old doc” medical meetings at Overlake Hospital and bemoaned the thinning of the ranks of those old doctors as the years passed. George was born in Nagyrabe, Hungary, and came to the United States at the time of the Hungarian Revolution against Russian control in 1956. He was a vocal revolutionary against the Russian takeover of Hungary, and when he found out he was to be arrested the next day (and possibly shot), he took his wife and two babies, and fled on foot through gun-fire controlled fields to Austria and then was brought on to the United States by Red Cross evacuation flights. He worked day and night and retook his medical exams, and redid his internship in New Jersey and came to the Northwest a few years later because he didn’t like the hustle-bustle and dirt and noise of the New York City area. He first worked at a State medical hospital and then opened his own private practice office in Bellevue in 1962. George and Margit formed many, many close and dear friendships over the years, many friends in the medical community, and many in the artist community (Margit became an accomplished artist in the area). Then there was also the Hungarian community of friends who would get together for epic pingpong tournaments, and great parties drinking and singing old Hungarian songs into the wee hours of the night. The grandkids loved the retired “Papa” who baked the most fantastic Hungarian bread and cooked the best Hungarian “goulash” west of Hungary itself. The grandchildren lined up for his famous foot rubs. The great-grandchildren over-filled their tummies with his home-made rice pudding that he would prepare just for them -- more recently bent over the cooktop, sitting on his stool, with his cane by his side, patiently stirring the milky-rice mixture while it cooked. His garden was immaculate and full of flowers which he took care of with great pride until the last weeks of his life. His kindness, generosity, and compassion, was most felt by his wife in these last years as he became her medical and physical caretaker as she suffers through her disabilities. We all love you Dadi, Papa, Nagypapa, Gyuszi, and shall so miss you! Rest in peace!

OCTOBER 2012
Írta/By: Seila Steger
Seila’s Memories
Similar to most young people, it was a great joy for me to cross the Pacific Ocean to the U.S. This became possible for me due to the Seattle-Pecs Sister City Association and its enthusiastic members. Two weeks later I found myself in Seattle with the two smiling faces of Maria Kramar and her daughter Eniko. At this point my two week long race against time commenced in order to see and experience everything humanly possible. Thanks to my eager "tourist guide" this goal has been reached, though a lot more has been left for a possible second visit. I was lucky to have met so many kind and interesting people, who helped me get an insight into the lives of the American people. From a distance of thousands of miles we have the tendency to see America through badly distored glasses. Much blame for this belongs to Hollywood and to all kinds of hearsay. Before I met “live” Americans, I thought that people are concerned mainly with themselves, i.e. they are unfriendly and overly reserved. The falseness of this view became promptly obvious with the friendly embraces by Maria and Eniko after my arrival. But later too, during a short Sunday afternoon walk, it didn't take long to be greeted with a smiling "hi, how are you" by a complete stranger. I tremendously enjoyed the great cultural diversity, the many new flavors, the music, the hikes, the interesting mix among the strolling multitude, the baseball game, the trip to the Boeing Plant, but most all, I really enjoyed the time I spent with my hosts. Other great experiences were the guided visits to several hospitals in Seattle. These are just a few things which have truly stayed with me. Actually, I got richer by many more experiences, but if I was to name them all, I could fill a book with them. I thank you very much for your welcome, it was a tremendous experience! I hope we'll meet again some time in the future!

Tallózó Kultúra-népitánc A Kárpát-medence magyarságának táncai kerültek terítékre nemgrég a 23. születésnapját ünneplő Táncházak éjszakáján, amely délutántól egészen másnap hajnalig várta a népzene és néptánc szerelmeseit a budapesti Akvárium Klubban. A táncolni vágyó legkisebbek a Törekvés Táncegyüttes Cseperedők Csoportjától leshették el a rábaközi táncok alaplépéseit, a Dűvő zenekar által diktált ütemre.Az Akvárium Klub nagytermében Somogy, Jobbágytelke, Sárköz, Gömör táncai kerültek terítékre, karöltve a Méhkeréki román táncokkal, valamint Felcsík, Melegföldvár, Szatmár, Kalotaszeg és Magyarpalatka táncörökségével. Táncházak éjszakája az idén 40 éves magyar táncházmozgalmat ünnepelte, illetve azt, hogy az UNESCO illetékes bizottsága tavaly ősszel a szellemi kulturális örökség átadásának követendő modelljeként vette nyilvántartásba a magyar táncházmódszert. Történelem-magyarság Emlékművet avattak az 1944-45-ös délvidéki megtorlások áldozataira emlékezve a Csongrád megyei Ásotthalmon, a leendő királyhalmi (Backi Vinogradi) határátkelő közvetlen szomszédságában. A Magyar Mártíromság Emlékmű Tóbiás Klára alkotása. A szobor csaknem hat méter magas, egy megcsonkított fát ábrázol, amelynek tetején, egy szögesdrótból készült fészekben egy csőrében kardot tartó, kiterjesztett szárnyú bronz turulmadár áll. 1944-45 telén a Délvidékre bevonuló szerb csapatok bevezették a katonai közigazgatást, és több hónapos irtó hadjáratot kezdtek a relatív többséget alkotó magyar polgári lakosság ellen: Újvidéken, Szabadkán, Zomborban és sok más magyarlakta helységben több tízezer embert gyilkoltak le, és földeltek el jeltelen tömegsírokban. Kultúra-zene-sport Elfogadták a szervezők Miklósa Erika nevezését a világhírű New York Maratonra, így a Kossuth-díjas operaénekes részt vehet a november 4-i futóversenyen. A művész idén kapott Kossuth-díjat a világ legjelentősebb operaszínpadait is meghódító, közönségét itthon és külföldön egyaránt fantasztikus zenei élménnyel megajándékozó előadóművészetéért. Kisebbségben Részlegesen regionális státust kapott a magyar nyelv a Beregszászi járásban: a járási tanács képviselőinek túlnyomó többsége kedden megszavazta az ukrán nyelvtörvény kisebbségek nyelvhasználatára vonatkozó egyes rendelkezéseinek helyi szintű alkalmazását. A döntés értelmében a jövőben a járási tanács határozatait mind a testület internetes honlap-

Jog-bíróság A Fővárosi Törvényszék, egy hónapra házi őrizetbe helyezte Biszku Bélát aki ellen több emberen elkövetett emberöléssel megvalósított háborús bűntett miatt inditottak eljárást a Budapesti Nyomozó Ügyészségen. Biszku Béla ellen a tavaly elfogadott, emberiesség elleni bűncselekmények elévülhetetlenségéről szóló törvény alapján kezdődött eljárás két 1956-os - a budapesti Nyugati téri és a salgótarjáni - sortűzzel kapcsolatban. Sakk A kétszeres olimpiai bajnok magyar sakkozó, Polgár Judit köszön vissza a CNN amerikai hírcsatorna honlapjának európai aloldaláról.„Polgár Judit, a sakkcsoda, aki saját játékukban győzi le a férfiakat" – ezzel a címmel közöl hosszú anyagot a CNN hírportálja a magyar nagymesterről, kiemelve: 23 éve megszakítás nélkül ő a legjobb női sakkozó a világon. Jelenleg 67 ország több mint 3.300 külföldi hallgatója tanul a Debreceni Egyetemen, ezzel a számmal ebben a kategóriában vezeti a képzeletbeli hazai ranglistát.

Hungarian Press Review Culture – Folk Dance The twenty-third annual Dance House Night recently celebrated not only the fortieth anniversary of the existence of the Hungarian Folk Dance movement but also the fall 2011 UNESCO Cultural Committee announcement declaring the Hungarian Dance House method as an exemplary model for passing on cultural and intellectual heritage to future generations. Dance House Night is a treat for folk music and folk dance lovers, which focused this time especially on the rich Carpathian Basin repertoire of Hungarian folk dances. As usual, the event lasted from the afternoon till dawn and was held at the Akvárium Klub. The Törekvés Táncegyüttes’ Cseperedők Group was teaching Rábaközi dances to the littlest fans, who danced the night away to the live music provided by the Dűvő band. In the main hall of the Akvárium Klub, the focus was on dances from Somogy, Jobbágytelke, Sárköz, Gömör, Felcsík, Melegföldvár, Szatmár, and Kalotaszeg regions, as well the Romanian Méhkeréki dances. History – Hungarians A statue called Hungarian Martyrdom, by Klára Tóbiás, was inaugurated in Ásotthalom, Csongrád county, in memory of the victims of the 1944-1945 Serbian military retaliations. At the end of World War II, the Serbian army took military control of the Southern (Délvidék) region, where Hungarians greatly outnumbered Serbian citizens and began a several month-long reprisal mission for ethnic cleansing by murdering and burying in nameless mass-graves tens of thousands of innocent Hungarian citizens from the communities of Újvidék, Szabadka, Zombor, and many others. The statue stands next to the soon to be opened Királyhalom (Bački Vinogradi) border crossing between Hungary and Serbia. The statue is almost eighteen feet tall, depicting a truncated tree with a bronze Turul – the mythological bird of Hungary – holding a sword in its beak, and standing with extended wings in a nest made of barbed wire. Culture – Music - Sport Erika Miklósa’s application to the world famous New York Marathon has been accepted. It is extremely difficult to gain acceptance to this race, especially as a newcomer but the famed opera singer enjoys the support and recommendation of the New York Metropolitan Opera (Met), the International Fair Play Committee, as well as the Hungarian Olympic Association and has been awarded the opportunity to cross the starting line with approximately forty thousand other runners on November 4, 2012. Erika Miklósa will be the first person in New York’s history to have sung the title role in a Met production and run in the city’s world famous Marathon. Miklósa began her career as an athlete and was a Heptathlon competitor until 1987, at which point she began her successful singing career. Miklósa was awarded the Kossuth-Prize by the Hungarian government earlier this year. The prize recognizes the artist’s achievements in performing arts resulting in fantastic musical experiences enjoyed by fans of opera on the world’s most renowned stages both in Hungary and abroad.

Translated by Zsóka Jakab Minority affairs The Hungarian language received a partial regional status in Beregszász region: the overwhelming majority of the regional council members voted for the regional application of the Ukrainian language law regarding minorities. According to this decision, all decisions of the council will be published in both languages, Ukrainian and Hungarian, both in print and on the web page of the council. Besides Ukrainian, Hungarian will be used for business of the local government, at conferences, and meetings and publications will all be bilingual including official forms, files, stamps and signs. According to the 2001 Ukrainian census, 76% of the 54,000 population of Beregszász is Hungarian. Law and justice The Budapest Court ordered home retention for up to a month for Béla Biszku. The Public Prosecutor’s investigators started proceedings against Biszku, accusing him of war crimes consisting of multiple homicides. The Court agreed with the proceedings and noted that this is the only way to prevent Biszku from hiding or leaving for an unknown destination. A new law adopted last year stating that crimes against humanity have no statute of limitation allowed the beginning of proceedings against Bizsku in relation to two instances of firing into crowds in 1956, at the Nyugati square in Budapest and in Salgótarján. Chess Hungarian chess player, Judit Polgar, a two-time Olympic champion, is on the European page of CNN, American News Media’s website. The long piece about the Hungarian Grandmaster is titled,“ Judit Polgar, The Chess Prodigy, Who Beats Men In Their “Own” Game”, emphasizes that she has been the best woman chess player in the world for the last 23 years. Even though Judit Polgar is the only woman in the top100 best (men) chess players in the world, she has never won a women’s world championship. Since the age of 14 – when she was already a two-time women’s Olympic champion – she has only competed against men. Mai nyelvhasználatunk - rövidítünk A nyelv használói mindig is alkottak, alkalmaztak célszerű rövidítéseket. Napjainkban ez a szóhasználati mód szinte mindenen eluralkodik. A bizalmas, kedveskedő stílusú becézés: ovi, isi, suli, vacsi, doki, dokikám, bratyó, gatyó, szitu, tulaj, légyszi (e-mail-ben, SMS-ben: lécci) telcsi (telefon), telcsizünk, talizunk (találkozunk), dumcsi, dumcsizunk, vadi új, bazi nagy, bocsi, bocsika, szimpi, meglepi (szimpatikus, meglepetés), ari (aranyos) egyúttal a beszéd gyorsaságát, a közlés rövidebb idő alatti megoldását is segíti. Ugyanezt teszi a pézsé (papír- zsebkendő), a gazdvez (gazdaságvezető), az ighá (igazgatóhelyettes), a tüktoj (tükörtojás) rövidítés is. Piaci árusok ezzel a formulával csalogatják vevőiket: pari, ubi, koviubi.
A megköszönés: Kösz! Köszi! – a köszönés szinte minden korosztályban: Szia! Sziasztok! Heló! Helóztok! Cső! Csövi! – az elköszönés: Pusz! Pusza! Puszkó! Viszlá! Visszhall! –megszólító, üzenetkezdő szövegek: Figyi! Mizu? (Figyelj! A mértékletesség: erény.
BABY NEWS Lucy and Tibor Fueresz are proud to announce the safe arrival of their 7th great-grandchild, Alexander Miska, born to Veronika Csilla Baklinski (nee Crow) and Andrew Baklinski on June 27, 2012. Kicsi Alexander joins in the fun with his older brothers and sisters, Cyprian, Helena, Anna, Éva, Thaddeus and Basil. The great-grandparents and grandparents, Judit and Michael are especially happy for the recent move of Csilla and Andrew from Ontario, Canada to Lucy and Tibor’s Mercer Island house. The timing was perfect because the greatgrandparents just relocated to Covenant Shores Retirement Home. Although life is busy for the Baklinski family, they find time to participate in Hungarian dancing and Hungarian Language Classes run by the HAAW. There is a constant stream of little visitors to the home of their great-grandparents, for private Hungarian lessons with Nagymami, for samplings of Hungarian treats and for special time with Napcsi. Please join us in welcoming Alexander!
