Distribution of geothermal area in Indonesia (CGR - Geological Agency, As of December 2015)
Indonesia has a geothermal potential of about 29 GW, but only 1,438.5 MW that generate electricity from geothermal power plant or less than 5% of total potential. The Indonesian government has committed to realize the electricity supply of 35,000 MW within a period of 5 years (2015 - 2019) and the contribution of electricity from geothermal power to support the program is 1,160 MW. Currently, the Government is still completing rules to accelerate geothermal development acceleration of Indonesia, such as: Geothermal Business, bonus production and direct use of geothermal energy. Volcanic geothermal (~65%) • • •
Non-Volcanic geothermal (~35%)
Indonesia has big geothermal potential spread across 330 locations, (CGR – GA, December 2015). Geothermal locations in Indonesia mainly distributed along the Indonesian volcanic belt (65%) from Sumatra, Java, Bali, East Nusatenggara, Banda islands, to North Sulawesi. However, some are associated with non-volcanic environments (35%) that mostly distributed in Sulawesi, Kalimantan, and Bangka-Belitung islands.

The Potential of Geothermal Energy in Indonesia (CGR - Geological Agency, As of December 2015)
• • •
Indonesia has big geothermal potential spread across 330 locations with potential resources and reserves respectively is 11,997.5 MW and 17,546 MW. The installed capacity of 1,438.5 MW. The government continues to conduct an inventory of the data to determine the distribution of geothermal energy and geothermal potential through activities geothermal surveys. Updating the data provided by the government are open for business geothermal.
Geothermal development in Indonesia, currently is still focused on high temperature and big-moderate scale power generations. In fact: Indonesia has geothermal resources for lowmoderate temperature:
Distributed both on volcanic and non-Volcanic environments
About 35 % of geothermal prospect locations are located in non volcanic areas
Non-volcanic systems are mainly distributed in Sulawesi Island, low –moderate temperature
Proven Technology: Low to moderate temperature systems are prospective systems for small-scale binary power generation.
Geological Agency of Indonesia is starting studies on prospective geothermal fields suitable for small-scale binary power generation and direct use.
Preliminary studies indicate many geothermal areas in Sulawesi seemly suitable for the micro-binary generation.
