Továrny a  firmy vznikají a  zanikají už od samého počátku průmyslové výroby. A nikdo se tomu nediví. Naopak, divíme se, když se doslechneme, že existuje podnik, který vydržel vyrábět třeba celých padesát let.

Na  severu Čech, na  úbočí krušnohorských kopců, ale najdeme firmu, která překonává všechna měřítka –  funguje a  vyrábí už plných 150  let! Dubská porcelánka. Na  jednom a  témže místě vytvářejí tu zruční řemeslníci křehkou a užitečnou krásu už od  roku 1864. Kolem se ploužila i  řítila historie a názvy státu se měnily – za těch 150 let se jich vystřídalo hned devět. Všechno začalo v  Rakousku‑Uhersku. Porcelánka přežila první i okleštěnou druhou republiku, nacisty, komunisty, privatizaci i  přechod k  tržnímu hospodářství. Sedmnáctkrát změnila název a  v  jejím čele se postupně vystřídalo šestnáct majitelů. A aby toho nebylo málo, firma používá už 101 let neměnnou ochrannou známku – třírohou královskou korunku. Dodáme‑li, že posledních 43  let vede porcelánku stejný ředitel, zůstává nám nad tím rozum stát. Čím to? Jak se to všechno vlastně odehrálo a kde jsou příčiny stopadesátiletého úspěchu dubského porcelánu s modrou krví? Vraťme se o půl druhého století zpět a pátrejme.

Seit dem eigentlichen Beginn der Industrieherstellung entstehen Fabriken und Firmen, und sie gehen zugrunde. Dagegen wundern wir uns, wenn wir erfahren, dass es ein Unternehmen gibt, bei dem die Herstellung zum Beispiel fünfzig Jahre lief.

In Nordböhmen, am  Hang des  Erzgebirges, finden wir sogar eine Firma, die alle Grenzen bricht – sie funktioniert und produziert schon seit 150 Jahren! Es ist die Eichwalder Porzellanfabrik. Schon seit dem Jahre 1864 stellen geschickte Handwerker an einem und demselben Ort die zerbrechlichen und nützlichen Schönheiten her. Die Geschichte ging langsam oder raste vorbei, die Namen der Staaten wechselten – in 150 Jahren gleich neun Mal. Alles begann zu Zeiten Österreich-Ungarns. Die Porzellanfabrik überlebte die erste und die beschnittene zweite Republik, den Nazismus, den Kommunismus, die Privatisierung und den Übergang zur Marktwirtschaft. Sie hat siebzehn Mal ihren Namen geändert, und an ihrer Spitze wechselten mit der Zeit sechzehn Eigentümer. Die Firma benutzt schon seit 101 Jahren eine ungeänderte

The production of the classic onion décor is the main programme of the Dubí plant and you could say its evergreen. It is applied on rococo designs under the glaze using cobalt. Currently, there are 631 different designs. The designs have been produced since 1885 when they were acquired from the O. C. Teichert Company.

Factories and companies have been established and shut down from the very start of industrial production, and usually no-one wonders why. On the other hand, we start to become interested when we hear about the existence of a company whose production has lasted for 50 whole years, for example.

In the North of Bohemia, on the hills of the Ore Mountains, you will find a  company that exceeds all expectations – it has been functioning and manufacturing for 150 whole years! It is the porcelain manufacturer in Dubí. Highly skilled craftsmen have been making objects of delicate and functional beauty in the same place since 1864. History has passed and the names of the countries that this region was part of have changed – there were 9 of them within those 150 years. It all started in Austria-Hungary. The porcelain manufacturer survived the first and the second abridged republic, the Nazis, the Communists, privatization and the transfer to a market economy. Its name has changed 17 times and 16 owners have taken turns in control. On top of that, the company has used an unchanging trademark – a tricorn royal crown for 101 years. And when we add that one director has been in charge of the factory for the last 43 years, you may well be really astonished. What is the reason? How did this all happen and what are the causes of the 150-year-long success of the Dubí porcelain with blue blood? Let’s go back a century and a half and explore.

Hlavním programem závodu v Dubí, který lze nazvat evergreenem, je výroba klasického cibulového dekoru na tvary rokoko kobaltem pod glazuru, jenž v současné době obnáší 631 druhů jednotlivých tvarů. Dekor je produkován od roku 1885, kdy byl získán ze sousední Míšně od firmy O. C. Teichert.

Schutzmarke – eine dreizackige königliche Krone. Wenn wir noch hinzufügen, dass die Porzellanfabrik schon seit 43 Jahren von demselben Geschäftsführer geleitet wird, ist es erstaunlich. Wie war dies alles möglich? Wie hat sich alles abgespielt und worin liegen die Ursachen des einhundertfünfzigjährigen Erfolgs des Eichwalder Porzellans mit blauem Blut? Gehen wir anderthalb Jahrhunderte zurück und forschen wir nach.

Die Haupttätigkeit des Betriebs in Eichwald (Dubí), die als ein Evergreen bezeichnet werden kann, ist die Herstellung des klassischen Zwiebeldekors mittels Kobalt unter der Glasur auf Rokokoformen, die es zurzeit in 631 Varianten gibt. Der Dekor wird seit dem Jahre 1885 hergestellt, als er von der Firma O. C. Teichert aus dem benachbarten Meißen gewonnen wurde.

Es wird das Jahr 1864 geschrieben. Dubí (Eichwald) ist in diesen Jahren eine Erholungsgemeinde mitten von Wäldern, gerade aus einer Holzfällerortschaft entstanden, schon seit zehn Jahren führt hier die Straße nach Dresden, und es kommen immer mehr Ausflügler aus dem  Kurort Teplitz (Teplice) hierher. Es sind gerader vier Jahre, seitdem hier der veranlagte und tüchtige Unternehmer Anton Tschinkel mehr oder weniger als Zufall erste Grundstücke kaufte (er suchte

Píše se rok 1864. Dubí je v těch letech rekreační obcí uprostřed lesů, sotva povstalou z někdejší dřevorubecké osady, už deset let tudy vede nová říšská silnice do  Drážďan a  výletníci z teplických lázní se sem vydávají stále častěji.

Už je tomu čtyři roky, co tu schopný a  agilní podnikatel Anton Tschinkel více méně náhodou koupil první pozemky (hledal zde příhodné místo k  vybudování pily pro výrobu soudků a  beden na  svou proslavenou cikorkovou kávu). Pan továrník zcela podlehl kouzlu místa a  rozhodl se, že právě tady by mohl začít podnikat v docela jiných oblastech, než v jakých už nějaký čas sklízel úspěchy. Koupil zájezdní hostinec a  přebudoval ho na  lázně, které jsou otevřeny sotva dva roky, a  koupil také dva mlýny. Na  místě někdejšího Papírového mlýna buduje továrnu na  siderolit a  teralit, především ale otevírá manufakturu na  výrobu majoliky čili fajánse v  přebudovaném Dolním mlýně. Historie výroby dubského porcelánu začíná. Vzhledem k  tomu, že na  některé termíny dnes člověk natrefí snad už jen na  sběratelských burzách, bude dobré objasnit, co že se to  vlastně v  „Továrně teralitu a  siderolitu Anton Tschinkel“, jak zněl vůbec první název fabriky, vyrábělo. It is the year 1864. In those times, Dubí was a recreational village in the middle of the woods. Just emerging from the former logging village, there has been a  new imperial road to  Drážďany for  10 years and  tourists from the  nearby Teplice spa come here more and more frequently. It has been 4 years since Anton Tschinkel, a capable and agile entrepreneur bought his first land here, more or less by accident (He was looking for a suitable place to build a saw-mill to manufacture barrels and crates for his famous chicory coffee). The businessman completely succumbed to the magic of the place and decided that he would start a  business in  a completely different field from the ones that he had already been successful in for some time. He built an Inn, which had been open for less than two years, rebuilt it as a spa, and bought two mills as well. He built a siderolite and teralite factory at the site

Cups are also an important line produced at the Dubí porcelain factory. There are more than 130 styles of cup; white or multicolour variations with non-glazed décor, in both basic and in-glaze designs, decorated using our own decals or spraying and handmade painting designs. The basic daily capacity for cup making in the plant is 15,000 pieces. Ein wichtiger Artikel der Porzellanfabrik in Eichwald (Dubí ) sind die Tassen, die in mehr als 130 Formen in weißer Ausführung oder mit mehrfarbigem Dekor auf der Glasur in der Grund- und auch der eingeschmolzenen Ausführung, die mittels Drucke eigener Herstellung und mittels Bespritzen und manuell durchgeführten Malerdekors dekoriert werden. Die Tagesleistungsfähigkeit des Betriebs bei der Tassenherstellung ist 15 000 Stück.

of a former Paper Mill and, most importantly, he started up a factory producing majolica (faience) in the reconstructed Lower Mill. The history of Dubí porcelain production has begun.

vyráběné v té době progresivní výrobní metodou. Šlo o  kameninu s  charakteristickým lakovaným povrchem, jehož jakoby kovové barvy propůjčovaly výrobkům zvláštní kouzlo. Klasická glazura tu byla nahrazena mastnými složkami, které zaplňovaly poréznost střepu, lakování probíhalo kopálovým nebo jantarovým olejem. Také teralit byl druh neglazované keramiky, která byla před vypálením leštěna dřevem nebo kovem. Fajáns čili majolika byla naopak keramika s bílou polevou a průsvitnou glazurou. Anton Tschinkel ovšem nebyl jediný, kdo v  kraji vyráběl keramiku, a  tak, aby své výrobky „podepsal“, začal používat značku vytlačovanou do střepu, která vycházela z jeho iniciál AT.

V roce 1873 dochází k prvnímu velkému průlomu v  historii továrny –  to když se Tschinkelovi konečně podařilo vymámit z  úřadů povolení ke  stavbě prvních čtyř pecí. Manufaktura je tedy přebudována na  továrnu a  nese nový název „Továrna na porcelán a siderolit v Dubí“. Už v té době ji opouštějí špičkové výrobky. Důkazem takového tvrzení je mimořádný úspěch porcelánové jídelní soupravy bohatě zdobené zlatem na Světové výstavě v Paříži v roce 1878. A  když o  rok později na  průmyslové výstavě v  Teplicích vzbudila obrovskou pozornost série zdobeného užitkového porcelánu pro tuzemský, americký i orientální trh zdobená pozoruhodnými malírenskými díly kresliče firmy E.  Th.  Behra, bylo jasné, že budoucnost sortimentu je především v porcelánu a průhledných glazurách.

Because you might only come across some of these expressions at collectors’ markets today, it’s a good idea to  explain what it was that was produced in  ‘Anton Tschinkel’s Teralite and Siderolite Factory’ (which was the  very first name of  the  factory). Siderolite was the name for decorative ceramics made by a then progressive production method. It was earthenware with a characteristic varnished surface with metalliclike colours, which gave the products special charm. The classic glaze was replaced by oily components, which filled in the porosity of the shell, and the glazing was done using copal or amber oil. Teralite was also a kind of non-glazed ceramic, which was polished using wood or metal before being fired. Faience, or majolica, was ceramic with white enamel and a translucent glaze. However, Anton Tschinkel was not the only one to make ceramics in  the  region, so to  ‘sign’ his products he started to use a mark pressed into the shell, which was based on his initials – AT.

The factory made its first major breakthrough in  its history in  1873, when Tschinkel finally managed to obtain permission from the authorities to build the  first four kilns. So, the  factory is rebuilt and  gets a new name: ‘Porcelain and Siderolite Factory of Dubí’. At that time the best products are made in the factory. The  exceptional success of  a  dining set decorated with gold at  the  Paris World Exhibition in  1878 is proof of this. And when a series of utility porcelain decorated with spectacular painting works by the company designer E. Th. Behr intended for domestic, American and oriental markets raised a lot of interest at an  industrial exhibition in  Teplice a  year later, it was clear that the future of the products lay mainly with porcelain and translucent glazes.

Angesichts dessen, dass heute einige Begriffe nur bei Sammlertreffen benutzt werden, wird es nützlich sein zu klären, was eigentlich in der „Teralitund Siderolitfabrik Anton Tschinkel“, wie der ursprüngliche Name der Fabrik lautete, hergestellt wurde. Siderolit war eine Bezeichnung einer dekorativen Keramik, die in einem damals fortschrittlichen Verfahren hergesellt wurde. Es handelte sich um Tonwaren mit einer charakteristischen lackierten Oberfläche, deren Farben, die von Metall glichen und die den Produkten einen besonderen Zauber gaben. Die klassische Glasur wurde hier durch fettige Elemente ersetzt, die die Porigkeit der Scherbe füllten, das Lackieren wurde mittels Öls aus hartem Harz oder mittels Bernsteinöls durchgeführt. Auch Teralit war eine Art Keramik ohne Glasur, die vor dem Brennen mit Holz oder Metall poliert wurde. Die Fayence oder auch Majolik war im Gegensatz dazu Keramik mit weißem Überguss und durchsichtiger Glasur. Allerdings war Anton Tschinkel nicht der einzige, der  in der  Region Keramik herstellte. Er fing also an, zur Markierung seiner Produkte die in die Scherbe geprägte Marke, die aus den Anfangsbuchstaben seines Namens AT – hervorging, zu benutzen.

Der Beweis einer solchen Behauptung war ein außergewöhnlicher Erfolg eines mit Gold reichlich verzierten Porzellanessservices bei der Weltausstellung in Paris im Jahre 1878. Und als ein Jahr später bei der Gewerbeausstellung in Teplitz (Teplice) eine Serie des Gebrauchsporzellans für den inländischen, amerikanischen und orientalischen Markt, die mit bemerkenswerten Werken des Firmenzeichners E. T. Behr dekoriert wurde, große Aufmerksamkeit erregte, war es klar, dass die Zukunft des Sortiments vor allem beim Porzellan und bei der durchsichtigen Glasur lag.

Im Jahre 1873 kam es zum ersten großen Durchbruch in der Geschichte der Fabrik, als Tschinkel endlich

Osmdesátá léta 19.  století byla ovšem poznamenána hospodářskou krizí. Většina nohou, na  nichž stálo rozmanité podnikání Antona Tschinkela, se začala drolit, přestalo se dařit především v  potravinářských odvětvích a porcelánka na to doplácela.

V  prvních dnech roku 1885 bylo na  majetek továrníka Antona Tschinkela uvaleno úpadkové řízení, které trvalo rok a  vedlo ke  ztrátě většiny aktivit tohoto průmyslníka. A  tak se dubská porcelánka musela rozloučit se svým zakladatelem a prvním majitelem. Protože však šlo o perspektivní provoz, ještě téhož roku (1886) ji kupuje firma „Meissner Ofen- und  Porzellanfabrik“. Ta sídlila v hlavním městě evropského porcelánu, v německé Míšni, a  rozhodla se udělat z  dubského závodu svou filiálku pro Rakousko‑Uhersko. Míšeňskou firmu vlastnili bratři Carl a  Ernst Teichertové, kteří pověřili vedením dubské filiálky Ernstova syna Christiana. Firma vyráběla kachlová kamna, hliněné a  šamotové zboží, ale především

The 1880s were affected by an  economic crisis. The foundations on which various business activities were based began to fall apart, this mainly affected the food sector but the porcelain factory suffered as well.

In the  first days of  1885 bankruptcy proceedings were taken against Anton Tschinkel’s property; they lasted a year and led to the loss of most of his activities. So the porcelain factory had to part with its founder and  the  first owner. However, as  it had been a  prosperous business, the  company ‘Meissner Ofen- und Porzellanfabrik’ bought it in the same year (1886). The company was from Meissen and decided to make the Dubí plant its Austria-Hungary branch. The Meissen company was owned by two brothers, Carl and Ernst Teicherts, who authorised Ernst’s son, Christian, to manage the Dubí branch. The company produced mainly porcelain as  well as  tile stoves, pottery and  fireclay goods. The Teicherts owned the company for 13 years and throughout this time they fought the complications with customs and barriers between Germany and Austria-

Die achtziger Jahre des 19. Jahrhunderts waren von der Wirtschaftskrise markiert. Die meisten Säulen, auf denen das vielfältige Unternehmen von  Anton Tschinkel stand, fingen an  zu wackeln, vor allem den Nahrungsmittelbranchen ging es nicht mehr gut, und die Porzellanfabrik musste dafür zahlen.

In den ersten Tagen des Jahres 1885 wurde über das Eigentum des Fabrikanten Anton Tschinkel das Insolvenzverfahren eingeleitet, das ein Jahr dauerte und zur Verlust der meisten Aktivitäten dieses Industriellen führte. So musste sich die Eichwalder Porzellanfabrik von ihrem Gründer und ersten Eigentümer verabschieden. Es handelte sich um einen Betrieb mit Perspektive, und so wurde sie noch

im gleichen Jahr (1886) von der Firma „Meissner Ofen- und Porzellanfabrik“ gekauft. Die hatte ihren Sitz in der Hauptstadt des europäischen Porzellans, im deutschen Meissen, und entschied sich, aus dem Eichwalder Betrieb ihre Filiale für ÖsterreichUngarn zu machen. Die Meissener Firma gehörte den Brüdern Carl und Ernst Teichert, die mit der Führung der Eichwalder Filiale Ernsts Sohn Christian beauftragten. Die Firma produzierte Kachelöfen, Tonund Schamottewaren, aber vor allem natürlich Porzellan. Teicherts

Další produkcí výrobního závodu v Dubí jsou jídelní, kávové, čajové a mocca soupravy jak v klasickém provedení na tvarech rokoko, tak i na moderním tvaru Bohemia, který získal ocenění „Vynikající výrobek roku“ a jehož autorem je prof. Jiří Pelcl. V zahraničí tento tvar ocenilo Ministerstvo průmyslu Korejské republiky certifikátem „Nadčasový design“. Souběžně jsou produkovány i čajové soupravy tvarů Laura a Aneta. Všechny tyto soupravy nabízíme v bílém i naglazurovém dekoračním provedení, dekorované obtisky, stříkáním, zlatotisky, ale i s možností glazury v odstínu slonoviny. Ke 150. výročí je připraveno vydání nových souprav pod názvem Olympia. Other ranges from the Dubí plant are dining, coffee, tea and mocha sets, both in the classic variety using rococo shapes and Bohemia, the modern shape which won the ‘Excellent product of the Year’ award and whose inventor is professor Jiří Pelc. This shape was also awarded abroad, with the ‘Timeless Design’ certificate by Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Korea. Tea sets in the shapes of Laura and Aneta are also produced at the same time. All of these sets come in white and non-glazed variations, decorated by decals, spraying, chrysotype (gold print) and with the option of the glaze in an ivory shade. New sets named Olympia are prepared for the 150th anniversary. Zur weiteren Produktion des Herstellungsbetriebs in Eichwald (Dubí) gehören die Ess-, Kaffee-, Teeund Mocca-Sets, sowohl in der klassischen Ausführung auf den Rokoko-Formen, als auch auf der modernen Form „Bohemia“, die den Preis „Das beste Produkt des Jahres“ bekam und deren Autor Prof. Jiří Pelcl ist. Im Ausland wurde diese Form mit dem Zertifikat „Zeitloses Design“ des Industrieministerium der Koreanischen Republik gewürdigt. Gleichzeitig werde auch Tee-Sets in der Forma Laura und Aneta hergestellt. Alle diese Sets bieten wir in weißer Ausführung und auch in der dekorativen Ausführung mit dem Dekor auf der Glasur, mit dekorierten Drucken, mit Bespritzung, Golddrucken, aber auch mit der Möglichkeit der Glasur in der Elfenbeinfarbe. Zum 150. Jubiläum wird die Herausgabe neuer Sets mit dem Namen Olympia vorbereitet. 11

Im Jahre 1899 erreichten diese Probleme den Höhepunkt, und Christian Teichert entschied sich, die Firma lieber zu verkaufen. Die Spur der Teicherts könnte in der Geschichte der Fabrik ziemlich unwichtig sein, wenn es nicht eine Lizenz gegeben hätte ... In Meissen kam es in den achtziger Jahren des 19. Jahrhunderts zu der Situation, dass der Meissener Schatz - das sowohl in Form, als auch im Ornament einzigartige Porzellan, das sogenannte Zwiebelmusterporzellan, mit der Abkürzung „Zwiebelmuster“ - seine privilegierte Stellung verlor; gerade der Firma Teichert ist es gelungen, eine Lizenz für seine Herstellung zu bekommen. Diese Lizenz wurde auch auf die Eichwalder Filiale übertragen. So hat das Zwiebelmusterporzellan in der Form Rokoko zum ersten Mal Eichwald erreicht, wo es ihm bis heute ausgezeichnet geht. Die Schutzmarke MEISSEN wurde mit einem fünfzackigen Stern ergänzt, damit sichtbar wurde, welche Produkte aus der Eichwalder Filiale herkommen.

V  roce 1899 tyto problémy dostoupily vrcholu a Christian Teichert se rozhodl firmu raději prodat. Stopa Teichertů v  historii továrny by se tedy mohla zdát vcelku nevýznamnou, kdyby nebylo jedné licence… V Míšni totiž došlo v osmdesátých letech 19. století k situaci, kdy míšeňský poklad – tvarově i  ornamentově jedinečný porcelán, takzvaný cibulový vzor, zkrátka „cibulák“ –  ztratil své výsadní postavení a  právě firmě Teichert se podařilo získat na  jeho výrobu licenci. Tu potom přenesla i do své dubské filiálky. A  tak se cibulák ve  tvaru rokoko poprvé dostal do  Dubí, kde se mu skvěle daří dodnes. Ochranná známka MEISSEN byla doplněna pěticípou hvězdičkou, aby bylo patrné, které výrobky pocházejí z dubské filiálky.

Hungary. The problems peaked in 1899 and Christian Teichert decided to sell the company. The Teicherts part in the company’s history could seem unimportant were it not for one licence… A situation when the Meissen treasure, the porcelain with the unique design and decor, the so-called onion pattern, or simply onion porcelain, lost its privileged position in the 1880s and it was the Teichert Company which managed to acquire the licence for its production. They then brought it to their Dubí branch. That was how the rococo-style onion porcelain first arrived to  Dubí where it still prospers today. The MEISSEN trademark was complemented by a  five-pointed star to make clear which products came from the Dubí branch.

Ein selbständiger und sich zurzeit entwickelndes Segment der Grundherstellung der Gesellschaft Český porcelán in Dubí ist das Hotelund Empfangsporzellan. Es handelt sich vor allem um die moderne Form Bohemia Hotel, die ein aufbereitetes und für Gastronomiezwecke ergänztes Sortiment bietet. Co je a jak se zrodil cibulák Onion Porcelain and its Origins Was ist das Zwiebelmusterporzellan und wie ist es entstanden?

An dieser Stelle ist es weise, sich den  Termin „Zwiebelmuster“ genauer anzuschauen, damit wir sicher sein könnten, was Eichwald eigentlich in den nächsten mehr als einhundert Jahren berühmt machte. Als die Europäer endlich das Geheimnis der chinesischen Herstellung des Porzellans mit blauem Dekor entdeckten, wurde in Europa mit dem Malen unter der Glasur mit Kobalt begonnen.

Když se Evropanům ve  dvacátých letech 18.  století konečně podařilo odhalit čínské tajemství výroby porcelánu s modrým dekorem, začalo se i v Evropě malovat kobaltem pod glazuru.

Zpočátku byly používány čínské a  japonské předlohy ornamentů, ale ještě během první poloviny 18.  století přichází malíř porcelánu z  míšeňské továrny Johann David Kretschmar s  novinkou, které se brzy začne říkat cibulový vzor. Jde o  jeden z  legendárních omylů lidstva, které se vžily natolik, že je běžně používá každý, aniž mají s  realitou cokoli společného. Ono totiž o  žádné cibuli nemůže být ani řeči. Na  vině byla dobová neznalost flóry Dálného východu. Zmíněný Kretschmarův dekor totiž byl (a  dodnes je) kompozičně dokonale vyváženou kombinací několika rostlinných motivů, konkrétně japonských broskví, pivoněk, aster, bambusového kmene a  granátového jablka. A  právě granátové jablko tehdejším Evropanům silně připomínalo cibuli. Ať 14

It would now be wise to look at the term ‘onion porcelain’ more closely to make sure we know what is it that made Dubí famous for more than a hundred years later. When the Europeans finally discovered the Chinese secret of making porcelain with blue décor in the 1820s, cobalt began to be used for painting under glaze in Europe.

At first, Chinese and Japanese patterns were used, but by the first half of the 18th century, a porcelain painter from the Meissen factory, Johann David Kretschmar, came up with a novelty which was soon after called the onion pattern. It is one of the legendary mistakes of humanity which have become so familiar that everyone uses them, although they have nothing to do with the reality of the situation. We shouldn’t talk about onions - the fact that people were not familiar with the  flora of  the  Far East was the reason. The aforementioned Kretschmar’s décor was (and still it today) a compositionally perfect combination of several plant motifs, in particular Japanese peaches, peonies, asters, a bamboo trunk and a pomegranate. It was the pomegranate, which reminded the Europeans of onions at that time. No matter what people called

Es handelt sich um einen der legendären Irrtümer der Menschheit, die sich so eingeprägt haben, dass sie jeder benutzt, ohne dass sie mit der Realität etwas Gemeinsames hätten. Es kann nämlich keine Rede über die Zwiebel sein. Schuldig ist die zeitgenössische Unkenntnis der Flora des Fernen Ostens. Der erwähnte Kretschmars Dekor war (und ist bis heute) eine in der Komposition perfekt ausgewogene Kombination von  einigen Pflanzenmotiven, genauer gesagt von  japanischen Pfirsichen, Pfingstrosen,

Významnou zvláštností technického a uměleckého pojetí jsou tzv. porcelánové krajky, do kterých jsou některé rokokové figurky oblečeny. Reprezentačními výrobky jsou Pražská Jezulátka v provedení až do velikosti 60 cm. Tento výrobní závod zná a používá mimořádně složité dekorační techniky, většinou ruční malbou barvítky, solemi, stříkáním a ostatními málo známými technikami. Segment figurálního porcelánu v závodě Royal Dux obnáší 1 310 ks různých modelů. The Royal Dux plant focuses mainly on the production and decoration of figural porcelain. The speciality of its technical and artist concept is the so-called porcelain lace in which some of the rococo figurines are clothed. Infant Jesus of Prague is the representative product and the figurines come in sizes up to 60 cm in height. The plant knows and uses extremely demanding decorative techniques, mostly hand painting with pigments, salts, spraying and other lesser-known techniques. The figural porcelain division of the Royal Dux plant comprises 1 310 various designs. Die Haupttätigkeit des Betriebes Royal Dux ist die Herstellung und Dekoration des figuralen Porzellans. Eine bedeutende Besonderheit der technischen und künstlerischen Auffassung sind dabei die Spitzen, in die einige der Rokokofiguren gekleidet sind. Zu Präsentationsartikeln gehören die Prager Christkinder in der Ausführung bis zur Größe von 60 cm. the Meissen novelty, its popularity skyrocketed. Onion porcelain is still popular all over the world even though the pattern itself has hardly changed at all over the years (or maybe it is thanks to that fact?). There are probably more reasons for its popularity though. It is surely its uniqueness; there is nothing similar to onion porcelain. Then there is a certain delicacy, exquisiteness, simplicity and modesty, even intimacy to this style. It is as if there is a certain peace and harmony woven in the shapes and lines. In addition, the inspiration may have been oriental but the  make and  style perfectly fitted the patterns and taste of European rococo. Porcelain is without doubt the thing people most associate with rococo.

už ale míšeňské novince lidé říkali, jak chtěli, její popularita měla raketový start. Cibulák je dodnes oblíbený po  celém světě, navzdory tomu (anebo spíše díky tomu?), že vzor samotný se za všechna ta léta v podstatě vůbec nezměnil. Důvodů jeho obliby ale bude nejspíše víc. Určitě odlišnost, neboť cibuláku se prostě nic jiného nepodobá. Pak jistá křehkost, jemnost, jednoduchost a  neokázalost, dokonce intimnost ornamentu. Jako by byl v těch tvarech a čarách zaklet jakýsi klid a  harmonie. Navíc –  inspirace sice byla orientální, ale zpracování a  stylizace dokonale zapadaly do  zákonitostí i  vkusu evropského rokoka. A jestli mají lidé dodnes s něčím rokoko spojené, je to bezesporu právě porcelán.

Figurines of animals are another production line of the Royal Dux plant. This range comprises of 63 models, many of them without glaze and in a matt finish (‘biscuit’ finish). The decoration is usually partially sprayed with paint and completed by hand painting and subsequently fired. Das zweite Herstellungssegment des Betriebes Royal Dux im Umfang von 63 Modellen sind die Tierfiguren, viele von denen ohne Glasur im matter Ausführung, sog. „Biskvit“. Die Dekoration wird in der Regel mit Farbe bespritzt, um die manuelle Malerei ergänzt und nachfolgend eingebrannt. Jahren im Wesentlichen nicht veränderte. Es gibt aber wahrscheinlich mehrere Gründe für seine Popularität. Es ist sicher das Anderssein, an das Zwiebelmusterporzellan erinnert nämlich nichts anderes. Dann sind es eine bestimmte Zerbrechlichkeit, Zartheit, Einfachheit und Anspruchslosigkeit, sogar eine Intimität des Ornaments. Als ob in den Formen und Linien eine bestimmte Ruhe und Harmonie verzaubert wären. Überdies – die Inspiration war zwar orientalisch, aber die Verarbeitung und Stilisierung passten vollkommen zu der Rechtmäßigkeit und zum Geschmack des europäischen Rokokos. Wenn die Menschen bis heute das Rokoko mit irgendetwas in Verbindung bringen, dann ist es zweifellos das Porzellan.

Vzhůru do 20. století aneb Éra rodu Blochů Towards the 20th Century – The Bloch Family Era Ab ins 20. Jahrhundert oder die Zeit der Familie Bloch

Seit dem Jahre 1899 hatte die Eichwalder Porzellanfabrik einen neuen Eigentümer, der Bernard Bloch heißt. Ihm gehörte schon eine Zeit lang eine prosperierende Keramikmanufaktur in  Hohenstein bei Graupen (Unčín bei Krupka), und er ergriff sofort die Chance, ins nahe Eichwald (Dubí) zu expandieren. Und er tat es richtig.

Damit es klar wäre, die Fabrik hatte damals 270 Arbeiter, 2 Dampfmaschinen, 2 Wasserräder, 3 Mahlmaschinen, 2 Schneidemaschinen für den Ton, 15 Mühlen für die Glasur, 2 Massemischer, 3 Pressmaschinen, 68 Drehscheiben, 17 Öfen zum

Vázy a amfory od secese až po moderní pojetí jsou dekorovány různými dekoračními technikami jak v bohatém, tak i strohém provedení, vyráběny v rozmanitých velikostech pro účely použití buď jako doplňky interiérů, nebo jako výrazné solitéry a poutače do velkých místností. Počet jejich modelů je v současné době 34 a vyrábějí se v závodu Royal Dux.

Od  roku 1899 má tedy dubská porcelánka nového majitele, kterým je Bernard Bloch. Ten už nějaký čas vlastnil prosperující manufakturu na  keramiku v  Unčíně u  Krupky a  po  šanci expandovat i  do  nedalekého Dubí okamžitě skočil. Udělal dobře.

Aby bylo jasno – továrna tehdy měla 270 dělníků, 2 parní stroje, 2 vodní kola, 3 mlecí stroje, 2 řezačky hlíny, 15  mlýnů na  glazuru, 2  míchačky masy, 3  lisy, 68  točírenských kruhů, 17  vypalovacích pecí a 10 pecí maflových, takže podnik jako hrom. Bernard brzy došel k  názoru, že nejlepší bude, když dokáže nabízet celý široký sortiment jemné keramiky. Jeho továrny tehdy vyráběly kachlová kamna, střešní krytinu, dlaždice, siderolitovou a  terakotovou keramiku, majoliku, kameninu i porcelán, předměty ryze účelové, ale také vysoce dekorativní –  samozřejmě včetně cibuláku, jehož si Bernard Bloch nesmírně považoval. V roce 1900 zaměstnával kolem tisíce lidí a  jeho firma patřila k  největším v  Čechách. Obchodní zastoupení a  vzorové sklady byly téměř po  celém světě –  ve  Vídni, Paříži, Berlíně, Hamburku, Barceloně, Florencii, Palermu, Bejrútu, Smyrně, Alexandrii…, byl by to dlouhý výčet. Brzy se dostavily i výrazné úspěchy na  výstavách, včetně stříbrné medaile ze Světové výstavy v  St.  Louis v  roce 1904. 18

The next new owner of  the  porcelain factory was Bernard Bloch, who took over in 1899. He had owned a prosperous ceramic manufacturer in  Unčín, close to  Krupka, for  some time and  he jumped at the chance to expand to nearby Dubí immediately. He did well.

To make it clear: the factory then had 270 workers, 2 steam engines, 2 water wheels, 3 grinding machines, 2 clay-cutters, 15 glaze mills, 2 mass mixers, 3  presses, 68 jiggers, 17 kilns a  10 muffle furnaces, so it was a huge company. Bernard soon realised that it would be for the best to be able to offer a whole range of  fine ceramics. At  that time, his factories produced tile stoves, roofing materials, tiles, siderolite and terracotta ceramics, majolica, earthenware and porcelain, purpose-built objects but also highly decorative ones – including, of course, onion porcelain, which Bernard Bloch valued highly. In 1900, he was employing about a thousand people and his company was one of the biggest in Bohemia. His representatives and ample warehouses were nearly all around the world – in Vienna, Paris, Berlin, Hamburg, Barcelona, Florence, Palermo, Beirut, Smyrna, Alexandria… it would be a long list. Big successes came soon, including a silver medal from the World Exhibition in  St. Louis in  1904. Of  course that made Bloch even more ambitious. He started to cooperate with famous designers – e. g. the famous Austrian secession painter,

The vases and amphora, from their secession to modern concepts, are decorated using various simple and rich decorative techniques and made in many sizes, intended for use as interior decorations or solitary eye-catching pieces for big spaces. Bernhard kam zum Entschluss, dass es am besten wäre, wenn er das ganze breite Sortiment der Feinkeramik biete. Seine Fabriken produzierten also Kachelöfen, Dachdecken, Fliesen, Siderolitkeramik und Terrakotta, Majolika, Tonwaren und Porzellan, reine Nutzgegenstände, aber auch hoch dekorative Gegenstände – selbstverständlich inklusive des Zwiebelmusterporzellans, was Bernard Bloch sehr schätzte. Im Jahre 1900 beschäftigte er ca. tausend

Vasen und Amphoren vom Jugendstil bis zur modernen Auffassung werden mittels verschiedener Dekorationstechnologien sowohl in reicher, als auch in schlichter Ausführung dekoriert, sie werden in verschiedenen Größen für die Nutzung als Ergänzung im Interieur oder als markante Solitäre und Blickfänger für große Räume hergestellt. Die Anzahl deren Modelle beläuft sich jetzt auf 34, sie werden im Betrieb Royal Dux hergestellt.

To  samozřejmě ještě zvýšilo Blochovy ambice. Začal spolupracovat s  významnými výtvarníky –  pracoval pro něj například i  slavný rakouský secesní malíř Gustav Klimt. Po  Bernardově smrti zdědil v  roce 1909 dubskou porcelánku jeho syn Arthur. V  názvu firmy zůstalo otcovo jméno, ale přibyl dodatek: „Bernard Bloch  &  Co., továrna kamen a porcelánu“. V roce 1913 se na výrobcích dubské porcelánky poprvé objevuje nová ochranná známka – třírohá korunka, kterou na nich najdeme i dnes. Doba se ale nepříznivě změnila a Arthur se svými společníky čelil stále větším tlakům. Nejprve totálnímu útlumu odbytu, a tedy i výroby v době první světové války a  potom hospodářské krizi ve třicátých letech. Obratnou obchodní a výrobní politikou udrželi podnik v  chodu, vyráběli především jídelní, kuchyňské a  ovocné soupravy, toaletní sady a  přepychový porcelán s  důrazem na  stále žádaný cibulák, ale také podpolevní malbu a  selský dekor ve  více než sedmi žánrech plus kamna a  krby. A  když bylo nejhůř, zúžili sortiment pouze na  kachlová kamna a  porcelán. Firma přežila –  a  to byla v  kraji docela rarita. Význam Blochovy porcelánky pro lidi z okolí Dubí byl tehdy neocenitelný – pořád tu totiž byla práce, o kterou jinde byla taková nouze.

Mělo ale být hůř. V roce 1938 byla firma arizována a přešla do německých rukou. Komisním správcem a  ředitelem byl ustanoven Hermann Lewald a  nedlouho po  něm doktor Horst Widera. Ten pod nastalým tlakem nedostatku pracovních sil, způsobeným odchodem většiny českých obyvatel Dubí, nasazuje do  výroby francouzské válečné zajatce. Odbyt klesá, výroba se tenčí a  ani její kvalitu se nedaří udržet. V  roce 1944 pak je výroba v  porcelánce zcela zastavena a  z  areálu se na  krátký čas stávají vojenské sklady tabáku a opravny tanků a vojenských vozidel.

Gustav Klimt, worked for him. After Bernard’s death his son Arthur inherited the Dubí porcelain factory in 1900. The company still bore his father’s name but there was an addition: ‘Bernard Bloch & Co., Porcelain and Stove Factory’. The products of the Dubí factory bore a  new trademark for  the  first time – a  tricorn royal crown in  1913, which you can still find there today. However, harder times came and Arthur and his partners faced more and more pressure. First, there was the huge decrease in sales and consequently production during the First World War and then the economic crisis in the 1930s. They kept the company going using their clever business and production tactics; they produced mainly dining, kitchen and fruit serving sets, toiletry sets and  luxurious porcelain with an  emphasis on  the still desirable onion porcelain but also more than 7 types of under-enamel painting and rustic decor and stoves and fireplaces. When the worst times came, they narrowed down their production to just tile stoves and porcelain. The company survived, which was quite a rarity in the region. The Bloch’s porcelain factory was of invaluable importance to the people around Dubí because there was still work which was so scarce elsewhere. Worse was to come. The company was Aryanised and fell into German hands in 1938. A commission administrator and director was appointed, Hermann Lewald, and Doctor Horst Wider followed soon. Because of the lack of workforce caused by most of the inhabitants of Dubí leaving, Wider got French war prisoners to continue production. Sales were decreasing as well as production and even the standards of quality could not be maintained. By1944 production in the porcelain factory had ceased altogether and for a short while, the area became a military tobacco warehouse and service garages for tanks army vehicles.

Menschen, und seine Firma gehörte zu den größten in Böhmen. Handelsvertretungen und Musterlager waren fast in der ganzen Welt - in Wien, Paris, Berlin, Hamburg, Barcelona, Florenz, Palermo, Beirut, Smyrna, Alexandria..., es wäre eine lange Liste. Bald kamen auch bedeutende Erfolge bei Ausstellungen, inklusive eine Silbermedaille von der Weltausstellung in St. Louis im Jahre 1904. Das erhöhte natürlich die Ambitionen von Bloch. Er fing an, mit bedeutenden Künstlern zusammenzuarbeiten. Für ihn arbeitete zum Beispiel auch der berühmte österreichische Jugendstilkünstler Gustav Klimt. Nach dem Tod von Bernard im Jahre 1909 erbte sein Sohn Arthur die Eichwalder Porzellanfabrik. In dem Firmennamen blieb der Name des Vaters, aber dazu kam ein Zusatz: „Bernard Bloch & Co., Öfen- und Porzellanfabrik“. Im Jahre 1913 erscheint auf den Produkten der Eichwalder Porzellanfabrik zum ersten Mal eine neue Schutzmarke - eine dreizackige Krone, die  wir auf  ihnen auch heute finden. Die  Zeiten änderten sich aber ungünstig, und Arthur musste sich mit seinen Gesellschaftern immer größerem Druck entgegenstellen. Zuerst musste er einen totalen Rückgang des Absatzes und deshalb auch der Produktion in der Zeit des ersten Weltkriegs und dann die Wirtschaftskrise in den dreißiger Jahren überstehen. Mittels einer geschickten Politik gelang es ihnen, das Unternehmen im Betrieb zu halten, sie

produzierten vor allem Ess-, Küchen- und Obstservices, Toilettensets und prunkvolles Porzellan mit dem Akzent auf das gefragte Zwiebelmusterporzellan, aber auch Unterglasurmalerei und rustikalen Dekor in mehr als sieben Genres, dazu noch Öfen und Kamine. Als die Situation am schlimmsten war, begrenzten sie das Sortiment auf die Öfen und das Porzellan. Die Firma überlebte, und es war in der Region eine Seltenheit. Die Bedeutung Blochs Porzellanfabrik für die Menschen aus der Umgebung von Eichwald war damals unschätzbar - es gab dort immer noch die Arbeit, an der es sonst überall sehr mangelte.

Es sollten aber schlechtere Zeiten kommen. Im Jahre 1938 wurde die Firma arisiert, und sie ging in deutsche Hände über. Als Kommissionsverwalter und Direktor wurden Hermann Lewald und nicht lange Zeit nach ihm Doktor Horst Widera ernannt. Er setzt in der Produktion, unter dem Druck des Mangels der Arbeitskräfte, der durch das Weggehen der meisten tschechischen Bewohner von Eichwald verursacht wurde, französische Kriegsgefangene ein. Der Absatz sinkt, die Herstellung wird kleiner und ihre Qualität lässt sich nicht erhalten. Im Jahre 1944 wird die Herstellung in der Porzellanfabrik ganz eingestellt, und das Gelände wird für eine kurze Zeit als ein Militärlager für Tabak und Werkstätten für Panzer und Militärfahrzeuge benutzt.

Ihned po skončení války začal kolem porcelánky velmi čilý ruch. První, kdo se o obnovení jejího provozu zajímal, byl jeden z  mála Blochových českých odborníků, do  roku 1939 vedoucí výroby, pan Josef Šimek. Pro továrnu skutečné požehnání.

Byl to Čech, měl státní keramickou školu v Teplicích, takže byl vzdělaný na  nejvyšší možné odborné úrovni, neboť vyššího vzdělání v  oboru v  té době nebylo. V  roce 1939 byl propuštěn a  Němci ho v Dubí nenechali pracovat ani na žádné nižší pozici. Odešel tedy do  Míšně, kde Němcům kupodivu nevadil. Hned v roce 1945 byl jmenován národním správcem a  okamžitě začal obnovovat výrobu a  navazovat zpřetrhané styky a  vazby se světem. Němci naštěstí v  době, kdy se výroba zastavila, z  továrny žádnou techniku neodvezli. Problém byl ale jinde –  v  lidech a  v  uhlí. „Dubská továrna na  porcelán, kamna a  obkládačky“ potřebovala především odborníky, a tak se Josef Šimek obklopil skupinou Čechů, kteří tu zůstali po  celou válku. Josefa Sklenářová, František Srp, Antonín Šimek, Václav Štrobl, Josef Hloušek, Otýlie Mühllauerová, Josefa Klotzová, Edita Loosová –  tahle jména by neměla být opomenuta, protože právě tihle lidé, a  ještě někteří další, pumpovali den  po  dni 22

As soon as the war ended things were very busy for  the  porcelain factory. The  first person interested in the restoration of its business was one of the few of Bloch’s Czech experts, the head of production, Mr. Josef Šimek. He was a real blessing for the factory.

He was Czech and had studied the state ceramics school in Teplice and so he had the best possible professional education, for there was no higher education available in  the  field at  that time. In1939 he was dismissed and the Germans did not let him work even in a lower position. He then went to Meissen where, surprisingly, the Germans did not mind him working. In 1945 he was appointed as a state administrator and he immediately began to restore production and the broken relationships with the world. Fortunately, the Germans had not taken any machinery or equipment away when production had ceased. However, there were different problems – with people and coal. The ‘Dubí Porcelain, Stove and Tile Factory’ mainly needed experts, so Josef Šimek took on a group of Czechs who stayed on throughout the whole of the war. Josefa Sklenářová, František Srp, Antonín Šimek, Václav Štrobl, Josef Hloušek, Otýlie Mühllauerová, Josefa Klotzová, Edita Loosová – these names should not be forgotten because these people (and some others)

Gleich nach dem  Ende des  Krieges fing ein sehr munterer Rummel an. Der erste, der sich für die Wiederherstellung des Betriebs interessierte, war einer wenigen tschechischen Fachmänner von Bloch, bis Ende des Jahres 1939 Produktionsleiter, Herr Josef Šimek. Ein wirklicher Segen für die Fabrik.

Er war Tscheche und war an der Keramischen Schule in Teplice ausgebildet, also hatte er die höchste mögliche fachliche Ausbildung im Bereich, eine höhere Ausbildung in dem Bereich gab es damals nicht. Im Jahre 1939 wurde er entlassen, und Deutsche haben ihn auch auf keiner unteren Position arbeiten lassen. Er ging also nach Meissen, wo Deutsche erstaunlicherweise nichts gegen ihn hatten. Schon im Jahre 1945 wurde er zum nationalen Verwalter

ernannt und fing sofort an, die unterbrochenen Kontakte und Verbindungen mit der Welt zu erneuern. Zum Glück wurden von den Deutschen nach der Einstellung der Produktion keine Technologien weggebracht. Es gab ein anderes Problem - die Menschen und die Kohle. „Die Eichwalder Porzellan-, Öfen- und Fliesenfabrik“ brauchte vor allem Fachleute, und so hat sich Josef Šimek von Tschechen umgeben, die da den ganzen Krieg über blieben. Samostatným se stal také tzv. „hodinový program“, který se svými dobovými pojetími hodí pro jakýkoliv interiér. Jedná se o hodiny nástěnné, stojací, malé stolní apod. Neméně zajímavá je i jejich dekorace nebo povrchová úprava. V současnosti závod Royal Dux produkuje 16 druhů hodin, včetně příslušných hodinových strojků. The so-called ‘Clock Programme’ has become a separate product line and because of its period concepts is suitable for any interior. There are wall clocks, grandfather clocks, small table clocks, etc. and their decoration and finish are no less important. The Royal Dux plant currently produces 16 kinds of clocks including the relevant clock workings. Selbstständig wurde auch das sog. „Uhrensortiment“, das mit seinem Zeitkonzept in jedes Interieur passt. Es handelt sich um Wanduhren, Standuhren und kleine Tischuhren u. ä. Nicht weniger interessant ist auch deren Dekoration oder Oberflächenbehandlung. Zurzeit stellt der Betrieb Royal Dux 16 Uhrensorten, inklusive der Uhrwerke, her.

V  první řadě bylo nutné provést úklid celé továrny, opravit stroje a zařízení, udělat soupis majetku, obstarat suroviny pro výrobu, získat potřebné lidi ochotné ujmout se práce a, jak už řečeno, navézt dostatek uhlí pro pece. Nezbylo než pořádat nábory – autobusy vozily zájemce s  celými rodinami dokonce až ze Slovenska. Mnozí z  nich se v  porcelánce uplatnili dlouhodobě –  třeba laborant pan Mičunek, Josef Chromčák nebo vynikající modelář Martin Krč. S uhlím byla jiná potíž – v dolech ho sice bylo dost, ale horníci chyběli a šachty ještě neobnovily provoz. A  tak se pořádaly brigády a  lidé z  porcelánky si jezdili uhlí nakutat sami.

Dne 1.  ledna 1946 byla porcelánka zestátněna a  převedena do  národního podniku „Teplické keramické závody“. V té době tu už zase pracovalo 350  lidí, a  aby se personální nouze neopakovala, bylo zřízeno učňovské středisko pro výchovu nových českých odborníků, machrů na  křehkou krásu. Mezi prvními do  učení nastoupili Josef Zavřel, Zdeněk Řezníček, František Smetana, Luděk Fott a  také jistý Vladimír Feix. Všichni jmenovaní se později v  dubské porcelánce stali techniky, odborníky a  řídícími pracovníky. Ona totiž modrá krev pod glazurou porcelánu není voda. Tohle řemeslo chytne a  nepustí. Nejlepším důkazem takové věrnosti a stálosti je koneckonců právě zmíněný Vladimír Feix. Prvního září 1947 sem přijel v  doprovodu otce tramvají z  Trnovan, aby tu nastoupil do  učení, a  fabrice zůstal věrný dodnes. Ze 150 let trvání dubské porcelánky v ní plných 67 let pracuje Vladimír Feix, z toho 43 let jako ředitel. Dost možná právě v  tom je jedno z  tajemství dlouhodobého úspěchu porcelánky, její schopnosti přežít doby dobré i  zlé. V  lidech, kteří porcelán chápou jako svoje poslání. V  jejich entuziasmu, mistrovství a  vytrvalosti, v  jejich nápadech a  každodenním úsilí, v  jejich ochotě spojit vlastní ambice s  ambicemi továrny. Zní to možná banálně, ale asi to tak banální nebude, když to funguje už 150 let. 24

brought the Dubí porcelain factory back to life. First, it was necessary to clean the whole factory, repair the machines and equipment, inventory the assets, get raw materials for production, hire the much-needed people willing to start work and, as mentioned above, bring in enough coal for the kilns. It was necessary to start recruiting – there were buses bringing the applicants with their whole families from as far as Slovakia. Many of them had worked in the porcelain factory for a long time, e. g. Mr. Mičunek, the laboratory technician, Josef Chromčák or the  excellent modeller, Martin Krč. The difficulty with coal was that while there was enough of it, there were no miners and the mines had not yet restarted production. Therefore, brigadework actions were organised and the porcelain factory staff would go and mine the coal themselves.

On 1st January 1946, the porcelain factory was nationalized and  transformed into the  ‘Teplice Ceramics Plant,’ a state company. At that time, 350 people were working there again and to make sure there was enough of a workforce an apprentice training school was established in order to bring up new Czech experts and dab hands at this delicate art. Some of  the  first to  start their apprenticeships were Josef Zavřel, Zdeněk Řezníček, František Smetana, Luděk Fott and Vladimír Feix. All of them later became technicians, experts and directors in the Dubí porcelain factory. Interest in the blue blood under glaze porcelain is not temporary - This trade catches you and doesn’t let go. The  aforementioned Vladimír Feix is the  best proof of such loyalty and permanency. He arrived here by tram accompanied by his father to start his apprenticeship on 1st September 1947 and he has been with the  factory ever since. Vladimír Feix has worked in the Dubí porcelain factory for 67 whole years out of the 150-year-long existence of the factory, and for 43 years of that as a director. The factory’s capability to survive the best and the worst times may be one of the secrets of the long-term success of the porcelain factory. And that capability lies with the people who see porcelain as their mission. It lies with their enthusiasm, mastery and determination, their ideas and everyday effort, in their willingness to join their own ambitions with the ambitions of the factory. It may sound strange but it has worked for 150 years.

Zuerst musste die ganze Fabrik aufgeräumt werden, die Maschinen und Anlagen mussten repariert werden, eine Liste des Eigentums musste gemacht werden, die Rohstoffe für die Produktion mussten besorgt werden, die notwendigen Menschen, die die Arbeit ergreifen wollten, mussten eingestellt werden. Und, wie schon gesagt, es musste genug Kohle für die Öfen angeliefert werden. Es wurden Anwerbungen organisiert - Busse haben Interessenten mit der ganzen Familie, sogar auch aus der Slowakei, gebracht. Viele von denen blieben in der Porzellanfabrik langfristig, unter denen zum Beispiel Laborant Herr Mičunek, Josef Chromčák oder der ausgezeichnete Modelldreher Martin Krč. Mit  der  Kohle gab es andere Schwierigkeiten -

Am 1. Januar 1946 wurde die Porzellanfabrik verstaatlicht und an das Nationalunternehmen „Teplické keramické závody (Teplitzer Keramikwerke)“ angegliedert. In dieser Zeit arbeiteten hier schon wieder 350 Menschen, und damit sich der Mangel an Personal nicht wiederholte, wurde eine Fachschule für die Erziehung neuer tschechischer Fachleute für die zerbrechliche Schönheit gegründet. Als ersten traten zur Ausbildung Josef Zavřel, Zdeněk Řezníček, František Smetana, Luděk Fott und  auch ein bestimmter Vladimír Feix an. Alle genanten wurden später in der Eichwalder Porzellanfabrik Techniker, Fachleute und leitende Mitarbeiter. Dieses blaue Blut unter der Porzellanglasur ist nämlich kein Wasser. Dieses Handwerk ergreift einen und lässt nicht los. Den besten Beweis der Treue und Beständigkeit kann schließlich der  schon genannte Vladimír Feix geben. Am ersten September 1947 kam er in Begleitung von seinem Vater mit der Straßenbahn aus Trnovany, um hier die Ausbildung anzutreten, und er blieb der Fabrik bis heute treu. Von den 150 Jahren des Bestehens der Porzellanfabrik arbeitet hier Vladimír Feix 67 Jahre lang, davon 43 Jahre lang als Direktor. Wahrscheinlich liegt gerade darin eines der Geheimnisse des langfristigen Erfolgs der Porzellanfabrik, ihre Fähigkeit, gute und auch schlechte Zeiten zu überleben. Sie liegt in den Menschen, die das Porzellan als ihre Berufung verstehen. In deren Begeisterung, Meisterschaft und Ausdauer, in deren Ideen und tagtäglicher Anstrengung, in deren Bereitschaft ihre eigenen Ambitionen mit den Ambitionen der Fabrik zu verbinden. Vielleicht klingt es banal, aber so banal kann es nicht sein, wenn es schon seit 150 Jahren funktioniert.

V obklíčení rypadly aneb Éra budování socialismu Surrounded by excavators – The Era of Building Socialism Umschlossen von Baggern oder die Zeit des Aufbaus von Sozialismus

V  dalších letech porcelánka sice často měnila majitele, vždycky to  ale byly státní podniky. V roce 1955 došlo k významnému zlomu v odbytu dubského porcelánu, když se podařilo navázat spolupráci s  rakouskou firmou Hohenstein, jež patřila hraběti Thunovi. Rakousko se díky němu brzy stalo největším odběratelem dubské porcelánky a export neustále narůstal.

V  šedesátých letech bylo hůř. Investice se zastavily, dokonce to  vypadalo, že bude továrna zrušena, protože k  Dubí se natahovaly nenasytné ruce těžby uhlí. Teprve v  roce 1965 hrozba pominula a  porcelánka mohla o  dva roky později přikročit ke  zcela zásadní změně, totiž ke  zbourání starých uhelných pecí a  vybudování nové plynové tunelové pece. Přechod na  plyn samozřejmě znamenal obrovský přelom v  životním prostředí lázeňského Dubí. Do  té doby se v  porcelánce denně spálily tři nákladní auta uhlí – a najednou ani gram. Kromě toho byly postaveny nové haly, sklady, budovy pro dekoraci a expedici, a dokonce i výrobna a sklad kartonových obalů. Tím započal vývoj, který je dnes běžnou praxí porcelánky –  provoz je zcela soběstačný. Jediným vstupem je materiál, jinak si továrna všechno včetně obalů udělá sama.

V roce 1971 se ředitelem firmy stává Vladimír Feix. Porcelánka v  té době vyrábí 200  tvarů cibuláku a  25  tvarů porcelánových hrnků v  850  dekorech. Kdybychom podle těchto čísel chtěli poměřovat úspěšnost Feixova ředitelování, museli bychom smeknout, protože po třiačtyřiceti letech ve funkci se může hlava fabriky pochlubit, že firma nabízí 670 tvarů cibuláku a 104 tvarů hrnků ve 3 000 dekorech! 26

The porcelain factory changed owners frequently in the following years but these were always state companies. A major breakthrough in the sales of porcelain came in 1955 when cooperation with an Austrian company, Hohenstein belonging to  prince Thun, was established. Thanks to  this, Austria soon became the biggest customer of the Dubí porcelain factory and so exports increased.

In the 1960s, worse times came. Investments were stopped and it even seemed likely that the factory would be closed because the greedy arms of coal mining were stretching towards Dubí. This threat passed in 1965 and the porcelain factory was able to make a substantial change two years later – the demolition of the old coal kilns and the building of a new gas tunnel kiln. The change to gas was of course an enormous turning point in the environment of the spa town of Dubí. Until then, three truckloads of coal were burned in the porcelain factory every day and suddenly – not even a gram. As well as this, new halls, warehouses, a building for decoration and packaging, even a plant and a warehouse for carton packaging were built. That’s how a development which is a common practice in the porcelain factory today started – the plant is completely self-contained. Material is the only input and the factory itself makes everything else, including packaging.

In den nächsten Jahren änderte die Porzellanfabrik oft den Eigentümer, es waren aber immer staatliche Unternehmen. Im Jahre 1955 kam es zu einem bedeutenden Umbruch beim Absatz des Eichwalder Porzellans, als es gelang, eine Zusammenarbeit mit der österreichischen Firma Hohenstein zu  knüpfen, die  dem Fürsten Thun gehörte. Dank ihm wurde bald Österreich zum größten Abnehmer der Eichwalder Porzellanfabrik, und der Export stieg andauernd.

In den sechziger Jahren hat sich die Situation verschlechtert. Die Investitionen wurden eingestellt, es drohte sogar die Schließung der Fabrik, weil sich die gierigen Arme des Bergbaus nach Eichwald streckten. Erst im Jahre 1965 endete diese Bedrohung, und die Porzellanfabrik konnte zwei Jahre später zu einer grundsätzlichen Veränderung greifen, und zwar zum Abriss der alten Kohlöfen und zum Ausbau eines Gastunnelofens. Der Übergang zum Gas bedeutete natürlich einen großen Umbruch bei der Umwelt des Kurorts Eichwald (Dubí). Bis dahin wurden in der Porzellanfabrik täglich drei Lastwagen von Kohle verbrannt, und auf einmal nichts. Außerdem wurden neue Hallen, Lager, Dekorationsund Abfertigungsgebäude und sogar eine Produktion und ein Lager für die Kartonverpackungen errichtet. Damit fing die  Entwicklung an, die  heute zu  einem gewöhnlichen Ablauf in der Porzellanfabrik gehört - der Betrieb ist völlig selbstständig. Das einzige, was benötigt wird, ist das Material, sonst produziert die Fabrik alles selbst, inklusive der Verpackungen. Im Jahre 1971 wird Vladimír Feix Direktor der Firma. Die Porzellanfabrik stellt zu dieser Zeit 200 Formen vom Zwiebelmusterporzellan und 25 Formen von Porzellantassen mit 850 Dekoren her. Wenn wir den Erfolg der Leitung von Feix messen wollten, müssen wir den Hut abnehmen, weil der Leiter der Fabrik nach dreiundvierzig Jahren in der Position stolz vermelden kann, dass die Firma 670 Formen des Zwiebelmusterporzellans und 104 Tassenformen mit 3000 Dekoren anbietet!

Die Aktiengesellschaft Český porcelán ist der Inhaber von zwei Schutzmarken, die international in allen Ländern, in die die Gesellschaft ihre Produkte liefert, registriert sind. In Europa haben diese Marken einen gemeinschaftlichen Status in allen EU Ländern.

Vladimír Feix became the  director of  the  company in 1971. At that time, the porcelain factory produced onion porcelain in 200 different styles, porcelain cups in 25 styles and 850 designs every day. If we wanted to  measure the  success of  Feix’s leadership, we have to take off our hats to him because the head of the factory can be proud that the company offered onion porcelain in 670 styles, cups in 104 styles and 3,000 designs after his 34 years as director!

A teď nám vládne trh aneb Éra porevoluční The Market rules now – the Era after the Revolution Jetzt herrscht der Markt oder die Zeit nach der Wende

Die Eichwalder Porzellanfabrik hat alles überlebt. Am Anfang des Jahres 1990 stand sie aber vor einer neuen Herausforderung - der Privatisierung und dem Übergang zur Marktwirtschaft. Es hat keinen Sinn, die langen Reihen der Firmen zu zählen, die so in Brüche gegangen sind. Die Eichwalder haben sich aber den neuen Bedingungen ungewöhnlich elegant eingepasst und sich bald ganz natürlich gefühlt. Mit einem Zeitabstand scheint es, dass der Erfolg auf einem sehr einfachen Prinzip stand - das Unternehmen fing einfach dort an, wo es vorher aufgehört hatte.

Es arbeiteten dort die gleichen Menschen, es hatte die gleichen Kunden, das Sortiment veränderte sich nicht, es fing nur an zu blühen. Drum herum geschahen übereilte Veränderungen. Der Betrieb 13 in Eichwald wurde aus dem Bündnis der Fachunternehmens Karlovarský porcelán (Karlsbader Porzellan) ausgegliedert, es wurde ein staatliches Unternehmen Český porcelán (Tschechisches Porzellan) gegründet, folglich entstand die  dem Staat gehörende Aktiengesellschaft Český

Dubská porcelánka přežila všechno. Se začátkem roku 1990 před ní ale stála úplně nová výzva –  privatizace a  přechod k  tržnímu hospodářství. Nemá smysl vypočítávat dlouhé řady firem, kterým to  zlomilo krk. Dubští ale dokázali do  nových podmínek vklouznout neobyčejně elegantně a brzy se v nich cítili jako ryba ve vodě. S odstupem času se zdá, že úspěch stál na  velmi jednoduchém principu –  podnik prostě navázal tam, kde předtím skončil.

Pracovali v  něm titíž lidé, vedli ho titíž lidé, uspokojovali se titíž zákazníci, sortiment se nezměnil, jen začal košatět. Kolem se ale dály překotné změny. Závod 13 v Dubí byl vyčleněn ze svazku oborového podniku Karlovarský porcelán, byl založen státní podnik Český porcelán, následně vznikla státem vlastněná akciová společnost Český porcelán a k 1. dubnu 1990 bylo všechno hotovo a  jelo se v  nových podmínkách. Čtyři měsíce od  sametové revoluce! O  dva roky později byl zpracován privatizační projekt a do roku 1995 už měla dubská porcelánka znovu – po čtyřiceti letech – jiného vlastníka než stát.

Prvotní úkoly byly dva –  modernizace techniky a  technologie výroby a  kontinuální rozšiřování škály výrobků. Modernizace ovšem vyžadovala především investice. Už v roce 1990 byly postaveny 28

The Dubí porcelain factory had survived everything. However, at the beginning of 1990 it faced a new challenge – privatization and change to a market economy. There is no point in  listing the  large number of companies that did not survive. But the people from the Dubí factory managed to cope with the new conditions surprisingly easily and were soon in their element. It seemed that success was based on a very simple principle: the company simply took up again where they finished before.

The same people worked there, the same people managed it, the  same customers were satisfied and  the  range products did not change but started to broaden. However, fast changes were happening all around. Plant No.13 in Dubí was taken out of Karlovarský porcelain, a state-owned, joint-stock company Český porcelán was formed and by 1st April 1990 everything was finished and operations under new conditions started - Just four months after the Velvet Revolution! A privatization project was planned two years later and by 1995 the Dubí porcelain factory had an owner other than the state once again, after 40 years. There were two tasks at  first: the  modernisation of the equipment and technology of production and the continuous broadening of the product range. Modernisation required a lot of investment. New buildings for auxiliary business and dispatch were built by 1990. Further investments were made each year. Just to put you in the picture: in 1991 there was a vacuum

porcelán, und zum 1. April 1990 war alles fertig und lief unter neuen Bedingungen. Vier Monate nach der Samtenen Revolution! Zwei Jahre später wurde ein Privatisierungsprojekt ausgearbeitet, und bis 1995 hatte die Eichwalder Porzellanfabrik, nach vierzig Jahren, einen anderen Eigentümer als den Staat.

Es gab zwei primäre Aufgaben - die Modernisierung der Technikund Produktionstechnologie und die kontinuierliche Verbreitung des Sortiments der Produkte. Die Modernisierung verlangte allerdings vor allem Investitionen. Schon im Jahre 1990 wurden die Hilfsbetriebsgebäude und das neue Abfertigungsgebäude gebaut. Ein Jahr nach dem anderen kamen dann weitere Investitionen. Nur zum Vorstellen: im Jahre 1991 war es die Vakuumpressmaschine und die Maschinenausstattung der Kartonage, im Jahre 1992

budovy pomocných provozů a  nové expedice. Rok za  rokem pak přibývaly další a  další investice. Jen pro představu: v  roce 1991 vakuový lis a  strojní vybavení kartonáže, v  roce 1992 strojní investice za bezmála šest milionů korun, 1993 glazovací linka Minor, stroj na  tlakové lití, linka na  výrobu šálků, 1994 rekonstrukce objektu Císařských lázní. Roku 1995, po ukončení privatizace firmy, byla zakoupena polovina domu se vzorkovnou v Praze, byla provedena rekonstrukce budovy točírny, postavena podniková prodejna, rekonstruována skladovací hala, lavičkový elevátor, potiskový stroj na ovály, rozvody licí hmoty –  to všechno za  úctyhodných 35,6  milionu korun. A  ve  výčtu můžeme pokračovat, jakkoli zmíníme vždy jen některé z  akcí: 1996 rozšířeno kolejiště pro přežahové pecní vozy, glazovací stroj Duplex, kalolis Antares, lis na ocelotisk. V následujících dvou letech investiční činnost trochu poklesla, ale i  tak činily stavební i  strojní investice skoro 11  milionů korun. Zato v  roce 1999 dosáhla investiční vlna kulminačního bodu, když byla postavena pecní hala, instalovány nové pece a  vystavěna tunelová a  komorová pec s  napojením na  glazovnu. Jen tak mimochodem –  protože taková akce nemohla probíhat za  provozu, bylo nutno stavět co nejefektivněji, aby výroba nestála ani o hodinu déle, než musela. A skutečně, za pouhých 11 týdnů bylo hotovo! Investice samozřejmě pokračovaly i po roce 2000. Jen namátkou zmiňme pořízení dekorační tunelové pece pro výpal vtavných dekorů z  roku 2004, třetí zařízení na  tlakové lití v  roce 2008, klimatizaci a  odsávání o  rok později nebo řídicí systém pro přežahovou pec v roce 2010, vybudování „Domu porcelánu s modrou krví“ v roce 2013 anebo rozšíření podnikové prodejny v roce letošním. Znovu je třeba zdůraznit, že je to  velmi neúplný výčet. Skutečnou představu o  rozměru investic získáme, nahlédneme‑li generálnímu řediteli ing.  Vladimíru Feixovi přes rameno do  finanční bilance. Zjistíme tak, že v  letech 1990–2013 dosáhly celkové investice z  vlastních prostředků ohromující výše 305 921 000 korun českých. 30

press and machinery equipment for packaging, in 1992 investments in machinery worth nearly 6 million Czech crowns were made, in 1993 a minor glazing line, a machine for pressure casting, a line for cup making and  in  1994 the  reconstruction of  the  Císařské lázně building. In 1995, after the privatization of the company was complete, half of a building with a sample room was bought in Prague, the refurbishment of the jigger building was carried out, a company salesroom was built, the warehouse hall was rebuilt, a swing tray elevator and a printing machine for ovals was bought – all that for mighty 35.6 million Czech crowns. We can continue this list even if we mention only some of the activities: 1996 - a rail yard for furnace wagons for first firing was built, a Duplex glazing machine, an Antares filter press and a die stamping press were bought. The innovation activities slowed down in  the  next two years but even so, the building and machinery investments amounted to almost 11 million crowns. The investment process culminated in 1999 when a kiln hall was built, new kilns were installed and a tunnel kiln with a connection

to the glazing room was built. By the way, because it was not possible to carry out such activities while the factory was in operation, it was necessary to perform the building works as quickly as possible so that production would not be interrupted for longer than necessary. And indeed, everything was finished just 11 weeks later! Of  course, the investments continued also after the year 2000. Let’s mention purchasing a  decoration tunnel kiln for  firing sealed-in decors in 2004, a third machine for pressure casting in 2008, air conditioning and aspiration a year later, a control system for the kiln for first firing in 2010, the building of the “House of Porcelain with Blue Blood’ in 2013 or the expansion of the company salesroom this year. Again, we need to stress that these represent only a small part of the list. We would get the real story if we were to look over the shoulder of the managing director, Ing.  Vladimír Feix, and  take a  look at  the  financial balance. We would see that the total investments made from the company’s own sources in 1990–2013 amounted to an impressive 305,921,000 CZK.

eine Maschineninvestition im Wert von fast sechs Millionen Kronen, 1993 die Glasurfertigungsstraße Minor, eine Maschine für den Guss unter Druck, eine Linie für die Tassenproduktion, 1994 die Renovierung des Objekts des Kaiserbads. 1995, nach dem Ende der Privatisierung der Firma, wurde eine Hälfte eines Hauses mit einem Musterraum in Prag gekauft, eine Renovierung wurde dort durchgeführt, eine Renovierung des Drehscheibengebäudes wurde durchgeführt, ein Firmengeschäft wurde gebaut, eine Lagerhalle wurde renoviert, ein Bankaufzug, eine Überdruckmaschine für Ovale, die Leitungen der Gussmasse - das alles für verehrungswürdige 35,6 Millionen Kronen. Und die Aufzählung geht weiter, obwohl wir nur einige der Aktionen erwähnen: 1996 Erweiterung der Gleise für die Keksofenwagen, Glasurmaschine Duplex, die  Schlammpresse Antares, die Pressmaschine für den Stahldruck. In den nächsten zwei Jahren sank die Investitionstätigkeit ein wenig, aber auch so betrugen die Bau- und Maschineninvestitionen rund 11 Millionen Kronen. Im Jahre 1999 erreichte

die Investitionswelle ihren Höhepunkt, als eine neue Ofenhalle gebaut wurde, neue Öfen installiert wurden und ein neuer Tunnel- und Kammerofen mit einem Anschluss an den Glasurraum gebaut wurde. Übrigens, weil so eine Aktion nicht beim laufenden Betrieb laufen konnte, war es notwendig, so effektiv wie möglich zu bauen, damit die Produktion nicht mal eine Stunde länger als nötig stehen blieb. Tatsächlich, innerhalb von 11 Wochen war es fertig! Die Investitionen liefen natürlich weiter, auch nach dem Jahr 2000. Nur stichweise kann man die Anschaffung eines Tunnelofens für die Brennung von Einschmelzungsdekoren im Jahre 2004, eine dritte Anlage für den Druckguss im Jahre 2008, eine Klimaanlage und Abzug ein Jahr später oder ein Steuersystem für den Keksofen im Jahre 2010, den Ausbau des „Hauses des Porzellans mit blauem Blut“ im Jahre 2013 oder die Erweiterung des Firmengeschäfts in diesem Jahr, erwähnen. Man muss noch einmal behaupten, dass es sich um eine völlig unvollständige Aufzählung handelt. Eine wirkliche Vorstellung über das Maß der Investitionen bekommen wir, wenn wir dem Generaldirektor Ing. Vladimír Feix über die  Schulter in  die  Bilanz schauen. Wir stellen so fest, dass in den Jahren 1990-2013 die gesamten Investitionen aus eigenen Mitteln eine beeindruckende Höhe von 305 921 000 tschechischen Kronen erreichten.

Přežijeme cokoli aneb Éra Feixova We Will Survive Everything – The Feix Era Wir werden alles überleben oder die Ära von Feix

Jetzt eine Information, die im Zusammenhang und  im Kontext der  Zeit nur schwer zu  glauben ist: Die  Firma Český porcelán, a.s. finanziert sich schon seit acht Jahren ganz selbstständig! Auch dank dessen ist sie die einzige, außerdem rein tschechische Porzellanfabrik, die nicht insolvent wurde und schon seit dem Anfang die gleiche Geschäftsführung und Organe hat.

Wie kann heute jemand ohne einen Kredit überleben, ganz ohne den  Einfluss von  Banken zu  leben, fragen wahrscheinlich viele Leser dieser Publikation. Nur dank des  Systems, das  Ing. Feix entwickelte und  im Jahre

Český porcelán, a. s., své výrobky označuje tzv. spodními značkami. Pro všechny je společná specifická korunka s písmenem D. Okolní detaily tohoto základního znaku společnosti jsou speciálně přizpůsobené příslušnému sortimentu. Zvláštností je, že některé výrobky vyráběné v závodě Duchcov, ale dekorované cibulovým vzorem ze závodu Dubí mohou být označeny spodními značkami Dubí i Royal Dux současně.

A teď informace, která je v daných souvislostech i  v  kontextu doby jen těžko uvěřitelná: firma Český porcelán,  a.  s., se už celých osm let plně samofinancuje! I  díky tomu je jedinou, navíc ryze českou porcelánkou, která neprošla insolvencí a  od  samého počátku má stejné vrcholové vedení a orgány.

Jak ale může někdo v  dnešní době přežít bez úvěru, fungovat zcela mimo vliv bank, zeptá se nejspíš mnohý čtenář této publikace. Jen a jen díky systému, který ing.  Feix vyvinul a  zavedl v  roce 2006, v době krize, kdy tlak bank neúměrně zesílil. V čem spočívá? V každodenní kontrole finančních toků. Den co den musí být jasné, kolik firma vydá a  kolik vydělá –  jinak hrozí krach. Vyžadovalo to  samozřejmě nesmírnou finanční i  statistickou kázeň nejen od  vedení firmy a  především generálního ředitele samotného, který osobně podepisuje všechny objednávky a  kontroluje všechny příchozí faktury. V  první řadě však bylo nutné pro věc získat všechny mistry a dílovedoucí. Náhle totiž nebylo možné objednávat věci tak říkajíc „do foroty“ a štosovat je někde v příručních skladech. Nejvyšším zákonem se stal účetní měsíc – cokoli se nakupovalo, nesmělo být na delší dobu. Mistři a  dílovedoucí se museli naučit důsledně doplňovat do  objednávek ceny objednávaného 32

Now is the time for information which is hardly believable in the circumstances and the context of  time: Český porcelán,  a.  s. has been fully selffinancing for  eight whole years! That is also why the porcelain factory is the only one, in addition the only all-Czech one that has not been through insolvency proceedings and has had the same top management and controlling bodies since the beginning.

Many readers of this publication will probably ask how it is possible to survive without loans and operate without the influence from banks today. It is exclusively thanks to  the system developed and  implemented by Ing.  Feix in 2006, at the time of the crisis when the pressure from banks was culminating. What is it based on? On the everyday control of the flow of finances. It must be clear how much the company pays out and receives every day or there is a risk of bankruptcy. It obviously took immense financial and  statistical discipline not only from the company directors but also from the managing director himself, who personally signs all the orders and checks the incoming invoices. First, it was necessary to win over all the foremen and supervisors to the idea because it was no longer possible to order things in advance and stock them in some close warehouses. The fiscal month became the highest law – whatever was bought could not be stored for a longer period. The foremen and supervisors had to learn to  fill the  prices of  the  ordered goods in  the  orders.

2006 einführte, in der Zeit der Krise, als der Druck der Banken unangemessen wuchs. Worin liegt es? In der tagtäglichen Überprüfung der Cash Flow. Jeden Tag muss es klar sein, wie viel die Firma ausgibt und verdient - sonst droht der Bankrott. Es wurde dabei eine unheimliche Finanz- und Statistikdisziplin nicht nur seitens der Geschäftsführung, sondern vor allem seitens des Generaldirektors, der persönlich alle Bestellungen unterschreibt und eingegangene Rechnungen überprüft. In der ersten Linie war es aber notwendig, für den Plan alle Werkmeister und Werkleiter zu gewinnen. Auf einmal konnte man nicht die Sachen sozusagen „vorrätig“ bestellen und sie stapeln und irgendwo in Aufbewahrungsräumen lagern. Das höchste Gesetz war der buchhalterische Monat - alles, was sich häufte, durfte nicht für eine längere Zeit bleiben. Die Werkmeister und Werkleiter mussten lernen, die Preise

Český porcelán a. s. labels its products with its unique marks on the underside. All of them have the specific royal crown with the letter D in common. The details surrounding the basic company symbol are especially modified for each product range. The unique thing is that some products that are made in the Duchcov plant but decorated with the onion pattern in the Dubí plant can bear both the marks of the Dubí and the Royal Dux factories at the same time. Český porcelán, a.s. signiert ihre Produkte mit der sog. unteren Markierung. Alle Produkte habe eine spezifische Krone mit dem Buchstaben D gemeinsam. Die umgebenden Details dieses Grundzeichens der Gesellschaft sind speziell für das bezügliche Sortiment angepasst. Eine Besonderheit ist, dass einige Produkte, die in dem Betrieb in Dux (Duchcov) hergestellt werden, aber im Betrieb Dubí (Eichwald) mit dem Zwiebelmuster verziert werden, können mit den unteren Markierungen Dubí (Eichwald) und auch Royal Dux gleichzeitig signiert werden.

der bestellten Ware in die Bestellungen konsequent einzutragen. Die Weise, auf die die Maschinen und  Anlagen gepflegt wurden, musste völlig geändert werden, weil etwas neues erst dann gekauft werden konnte, wenn die Firma Geld dafür verdiente. Das Vokabular der Mitarbeiter durfte nicht mehr die Ausdrücke beinhalten wie zum Beispiel: „Das hat mir niemand gesagt... So hat man das schon immer gemacht...

Ze slovníku zaměstnanců musela jednou provždy zmizet sousloví typu: To mi nikdo neřekl… Takhle se to  dělalo vždycky… To  není moje starost… Odbory musely přistoupit na pravidlo – když nejsou peníze, dělá se zadarmo, doplatíme, až na  to budeme mít. Veškerá finanční statistika je vedena dvojmo – jednou v počítačích a jednou ve fyzické, papírové formě. Jeden každý den v roce, pouhým nahlédnutím do výkazů, je ing. Feix schopen říci, jak na tom firma momentálně je. Na korunu přesně. Tak takhle nějak se dá přežít krize v podstatě „bez ztráty květinky“. Když k tomu připočítáte vytrvalou sebezáchovnou snahu o  výchovu vlastních učňů, když si uvědomíte, že export firmy dnes nestojí na jediné noze, jak tomu pohříchu často bývá, ale na nohou nejméně čtyřech – totiž trhu japonském, korejském, německém a  ruském, s  odbytem do  desítek dalších světových zemí, když vezmete v  úvahu, že firma kontinuálně dbá o  sociální vybavenost zaměstnanců a  především že jich zaměstnává 290 (přestože kdyby jich pár desítek propustila, dosáhla by na  evropské dotace), že být zaměstnancem dubské porcelánky je výsada a zdroj osobní hrdosti, řeknete si možná – konečně dobrá zpráva, konečně důkaz, že když se chce (a  když to  někdo umí), tak to  přece jenom jde a 150 let stará tradice může slavně pokračovat dál. 34

The approach towards the care of the machines and equipment had to change completely because nothing new could be bought until the company earned enough money to do so. The employees had to stop saying things like: Nobody told me… We’ve always done it this way… That’s none of my business… the Union had to accede to the rule – when there is no money, we work for free – we will pay when we have the money. All financial statistics are kept in two forms – electronically and  on  paper. Ing. Feix is able to  say how the company is doing any single day a year just by looking at the records. Down to a single crown. So this is one way to survive the crisis honourably. When you add the continuous self-preserving efforts to train their own students and when you realise that the exports of the company do not rely on a single market, which happens very often, but relies on at least four markets – the Japanese, Korean, German and Russian markets and sales to tens of other countries, when you take into account that the company continuously cares for social provisions for its employees and mainly the fact that it employs 290 of them (even though the company would qualify for European subsidies if it dismissed several dozen of them), that it is a privilege and a source of personal pride to be employed by the Dubí porcelain factory, you might say to  yourself: good news, finally, proof that where there is a will (and knowledge) there is a way and that the150-year-old tradition can gloriously continue.

Das ist nicht mein Problem...“ Die Gewerkschaften mussten die Regel akzeptieren - wenn es kein Geld gibt, arbeiten wir umsonst, wenn es Geld gibt, wird nachgezahlt. Die  ganze finanzielle Statistik wird doppelt geführt, in Computern und in der materiellen Form auf Papier. An jedem einzelnen Tag im Jahr kann Ing. Feix nur beim einfachen Einblick in die Unterlagen sagen, wie es mit der Firma steht. Auf eine Krone genau. So kann also eine Krise ohne jeden Verlust überlebt werden. Wenn man dazu die Ausdauer bei der Bemühung sieht, die eigenen Lehrlinge zu erziehen, wenn man bedenkt dass der  Export heute nicht auf  einer Säule, sondern auf mindestens vieren steht - dem japanischen, koreanischen, deutschen und russischen Markt, dem Absatz in Dutzenden anderen Ländern der Welt, wenn man bedenkt, dass die Firma kontinuierlich auf die soziale Ausstattung ihrer Mitarbeiter achtet, und vor allem, dass sie 290 von ihnen beschäftigt (obwohl sie bei der Entlassung einiger von ihnen auf die europäischen Subventionen reichen könnte), dass ein Mitarbeiter der Eichwalder Porzellanfabrik zu sein ein Privileg und eine Quelle des persönlichen Stolzes ist, kann man vielleicht sagen - endlich mal eine gute Nachricht, endlich mal ein Beweis, dass wenn man will (und etwas kann), es geht. So kann die 150 Jahre alte Tradition mit Ruhm weiter fortgesetzt werden.
